Good recommendation

For those that are interested in reds under 12 - mainly Europe - check out

I've been getting a bunch of wine there for a while (even while living in NYC).
It has some great selection and customer service. They're also sensible as they won't ship wine in extreme temperature conditions.

Not $12, but $19.99 at costco. Long Shadow Nine Hats.
It's a WA state wine.. quite tasty for the price. (it's made with declassified juice from the other Long Shadow wines - which albeit are 45-50 dollars - are excellent).
For $12, I'd get columbia crest cab.. not much beat it at that price.
I usually find some close out sales and load up on cases of daily drinkers for <$15.. but that takes patience and a bit of timing/luck.

I just stumbled on this thread and see that a lot of folks are recommending one of my daily table favs, Bogle Petite Syrah. To me, what seems similar in taste with comparable price points are McManis Petite Syrah and the Marietta Old Vines Red, and with Menage A Trois a decent and somewhat less expensive runner-up. If anyone has any additional suggestions for other options in this style of wine, you will have my external appreciation!
Edited to add: Ahh, perhaps I should not have said "similar in taste" -- maybe "similar in my appreciation" would have been more appropriate.

Saw this thread and my first thought was to throw Bogle Petite Sirah out there. Well... even though it is my favorite under 12. (and usually under 10) I'll give my fellow FTers ---- Avalon Napa Cabernet ----
so
1. Bogle Petite Sirah
2. Avalon Napa Cab
3. La Fiera - Italian

I generally have to watch until I see a sale on some $15 wines that I like, they include:
Avalon Cab
Napa Ridge Cab
Chateau St. Jean Cab
Sebastiani Cab
Wente Cab 2008
Usually Publix, Costco or Total Wines. When not on sale I'll just pay more as I really have found experimenting with $9 wines not very enjoyable.

Try the 2009 Columbia Crest Washington State Two Vines Merlot/Cabernet. (52% Cabernet Franc, 43% Cabernet Franc, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon.) Not going to get 95 points from Parker, but an excellent price/value ratio for a nice, ready-to-drink Bordeaux-style blend. In my neck of the woods, Total usually has it for less than $8. At that price, it's a steal. The '09 is much better than the '08.
