Most Expensive Dinner

About $600 for dinner for 3 @ Charlie Trotter's & a good value at that; about $300 for the meal & balance for wine, tax & tip. We probably got $75 worth of dessert included. After dinner, Mrs T (Charlie's mother) quietly took us & a few others on a kitchen tour.

Around $850 for 3 (Auberge, Napa Valley -- one of us wasn't drinking or it would have been worse).
I remember doing a quick mental calculation RE how I could have gotten an international round trip ticket and then some for that money, but still had no regrets

Auberge du soleil ? We were there once, four of us for about 800$. Very nice view over the valley, gorgeous sunset. A dinner I will never forget.

Quality is remembered long after price is forgotten. - absolutely true for this relais et chateau restaurant.

About $750 for two at Alain Ducasse in New York when it first opened. All those pens didn't come cheap.

Auberge du Soleil in Napa; $244 lunch for two. That is the minimum you spend if you dine on Lobster at the Palm <anywhere> No comparison! and the hilltop experience overlooking the vineyards on a lazy June afternoon........Priceless!

$440 for two at The Firebird in NYC. Me bride developed a taste for caviar in Baku.
$320 for two at Inn at Little Washington. I still remember the dessert!

The most expensive dinner was a dinner at Im Schiffchen in Dsseldorf-Kaiserswerth (3 Star Guide Michelin) in 1998 : 630,00 DM (320,00 EUR) for me and a girl-friend.
The dinner was good, but Jean-Claude Bourgueil is not always on top level.
I prefer the Restaurant Vieux Sinzig in Sinzig (a village near Koblenz) or Steinheuers Restauran in Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler.

We have to 9 course menus for 199 DM each and wine. The most expensive was the wine; i haven't the bill any more, but it was something about appr. 50 DM / each bottle.
We did not need the whole bottle, but there was no open wine served

I paid $817 for dinner for 2 at Masa's SF a couple years ago and 580 Euros in Taillevent last month. The bill at Masa's was inflated by a bottle of 1994 Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cab and the Taillevent bill by a nice if youngish Lynch Bages.
I (or rather my employer) paid $1800+ for dinner for 6 at Fifth Floor SF, similarly inflated by 2 Williams Selyem Pinot Noirs.

Mine would have to be called a tie... $400 a person, total of $1600 for the dinner for four, at both the Flagstaff Restaurant in Boulder, CO (fantastic view, great wine, but only above average food--but for Colorado, that's saying a LOT sometimes) and, of course, the famous Inn at Little Washington in Washington, VA (magnificent French-Virginia fusion and WAY too much wine).
I'd say the former was overpriced and paid for by my employer and the latter was worth every penny.

Darn- my husband and I are absolute cheapskates by comparison!
We had dinner at Simpson's in London last April in the company of other travel fanatics, including one FTer. Between the classic black cab we took past London's landmarks to his flat and the cost of dinner, that evening ran us something over $US 200. It was fantastic- especially the treacle sponge for dessert.
I may have had a few more expensive meals courtesy of dot-com clients in 2000-2001 but never saw the bills- they picked them up.

About GBP 2300 for 2 at Petrus in London...but mostly it was the claret, obviously.
Ah, also had dinner for two at Morton's Central (closed now) in HKG and that came to about $650. The wine was about $200 and the rest went into their lobster dinner ($220 per entree - apparently a 60 year-old flown in from Maine) and a prime rib plus various sides, predinner cocktails and tip.
