Awww I love Bistecca Fiorentina - only learned of it in 2002 and finally had it in 2006 during pre-moon, wedding & honeymoon in Italia.

One of my kids, BV Jr #3, is a lifelong Oreo lover. He used to collect the Christmas tins back in the aughts until they discontinued them. I spotted a valentine themed tin on Amazon and ordered it for him. There was also a Winter themed box, but not available from the Oreo store, possibly stale, and wouldn’t arrive for a month.

This made me remember those beloved Taco Bell chili cheese burritos from the 90's. They took them off the menu a longggggg time ago, but as of a few years ago some stores would still make them on request, although it always scared me that there really wasn't any other chili on offer. During the time they were on the menu, every Taco Bell run had to include one of these in my order.

I had a nostalgic craving for fried shrimp with cocktail sauce, the kind I used to order at "fancy" restaurants as a kid. With restaurants re-opening here this week, I got my shrimp, fries, and two Sazeracs, and my wife had crawfish etouffee. The leftover chuck roast beef tacos got pushed to tonight.

awww sweet! I just wish that the supermarkets sold an Oreo assortment package. I’m missing out on many flavors because I won’t buy a pack that might taste too blah.

I love tins and collectibles but lack space in our modest Sf house.

Today is Steak Saturday. When I'm traveling weekends I always get steak Saturday night. I'm in rural Glasgow, KY (it's near tomorrow's destination of Mammoth Cave NP) and this seems like it'll be the place:

A Little Taste of Texas Cafe

BamaVol Jan 30, 2021 5:44 pm

Leczo - a kind of Hungarian stew made with the kolbacz smoked sausage from the Polish deli. I couldn’t believe there were Hungarian wax peppers for sale at Publix. Everyone loved the dinner.

gorgeous menu. I’m blown away by the burgers being under $10, the desserts being below $6, and the steaks being under $30!

Big difference between city prices and country prices. I did note that the menu is over 5 years out if date. Is that right? And I have watched menu prices steadily climb as the pandemic wears on.

I got their last prime rib which came out a little overdone (I prefer medium rare, this was medium). Still very good though I was annoyed the place didn't have a bar or even beer. That said, $28 for a prime rib and two sides is nothing to sneeze at

Imprerfect Produce delivered mine plus someone else's order of perishables to my door. Presently eating my way through a forest of vegetables.

The company can't take them back, and food banks don't take perishable donations from individuals. I decided to pay it forward and make a monetary donation to the food bank for what I estimate to be the cost of the mis-directed delivery.

I made several changes based on the Wikipedia entry for the dish and personal needs and preferences.

1 cut in half for 3 diners. One pound each of tomatoes and peppers. One sausage est. 1/2 pound. One medium onion.
2 sautéed onions first, then peppers before adding tomatoes.
3 seasoned with Hungarian sweet paprika, salt and thyme.
4 added a few diced cloves of garlic near the end.

Last night: baby back ribs and an Asian-style salad.

Tonight: Chicken shawarma-style, garlic sauce, pita, couscous, and what I call shawarma salad (tomatoes, dill pickles, garlic, lemon juice, parsley, olives oil and pickle brine)

I love baby back and they are a casualty of me being alone during covid. I used to grill them when I had a couple friends over---too much for just me & I miss them.

Sababa Cookbook's "green shakshuka" was obscenely good this AM for brunch. Takes an hour+, but it'll find a place in my weekend rotation. Will pair it with a nice bricohe next time to sop up the bits and juices that drip through my fork.

I’d never seen green before, just the standard tomato version. The recipe I called up suggested an eggplant version as well.

Sauteed onions and spinach with (seeded) jalapeño, cilantro, parsley, nutmeg, salt, pepper, (skipped the thyme), and half and half. Broil to finish the eggs.

"Eggplant shakshuka" seems like matbucha. Also good but more of a relish on/under fish than a main.

Some tomatillos might be good in that as well.

Why not just reheat the leftovers in a microwave? I be you could even freeze them and use them later if you make a really big batch.

I usually buy my baby back ribs at Costco because they have the best and the package size is pretty big. And of course I would have to freeze at least half. Ribs are what I consider a treat food because they are fattening so I don't need to be faced with eating or storing that much.
If my craving doesn't go away maybe I can get some takeout somewhere .

I cooked a whole chicken, seasoned with onions, garlic, celery, and carrots, and stuffed with a lemon, a clementine, and rosemary. I served it with bacon braised green beans and rosemary, garlic, and olive oil seasoned roasted baby potatoes.

I bought beef ribs at Safeway and I’ve seen decent sized packages of pork ribs there... hope you can get them because you deserve only the best treats for yourself. It would be a great valentines present :-)

Well actually I don't "deserve" to eat ribs...unhealthy foods are an occasional thing.
I have tried other ribs but nothing beats the Costco ones. It is like lamb chops---nothing beats the Costco ones of those either.

Had the time tonight to make 3 vegetarian dishes that each take an hour: collard greens, roasted butternut squash, and Sababa Cookbook's Freekah Vegetable Soup. The soup called for a Parmesan rind, which I skipped. Might add a dried morels next time.

I was planning on eating at the CLT Centurion or picking up something at CLT to eat on my flight to ATL but my flight from RDU was delayed an hour so it's whatever I can pick up from a drive through to consume as I drive to Columbus, GA. Le sigh.

Finally....

I got to have my Lamb Chop with Beef Flavored Rice-A-Roni. My wife was hungry for some beef tonight and I threw her a curve ball with Lamb Shoulder Blades. Of course, I got to eat more than my serving here as she had a smaller piece, but still could only finish half.

Broiled with Lawry's Garlic Salt and Fresh Ground Black Pepper as the seasoning. My wife created her "dip" of a Meyer's Lemon Squeezed into Kikkoman's Soy Sauce. It's one her favorite seasonings for beef coming from the Philippines.

Gorgeous! Do you remember how long you had it in the broiler?

Cooked it on low for about 5 minutes each side, then upped the heat to high so I could brown the outside for about 2 minutes per side. Unfortunately, created a lot of smoke in the kitchen so I had to open the window to 50 degree temps to air out the kitchen for about an hour.

You got your cookies already? I don't think mine are supposed to be here for another 2 weeks. Let me know how the toffee ones are.

toffee has a great crunch.
I received a special delivery at the playground today; maybe distribution depends on location.
the Chinese sausage was very ace - it would be fun in a clay pot as per LapLap’s other thread.
