thought of my fellow Evergood lovers today as I saw the plant when walking to my car from my office! I’ll post a pic later as I sent the post instead of pressing the button for attachments :-)

What kind of cake is that? Maybe I should try susiecakes again...I wasn't very impressed when I have had it before but it's been a while.

CELEBRATION cake. Without caps. I utterly love it. And a small slice is perfectly adequate :-)

Brioche , chilli crab & mash potatoes 😉

Usually chilli crab is paired with baguette / French loaf or man tou ..

That chilli crab is probably the dish I enjoy most when in Singapore. I'm generally not a huge fan of most bread but that bread they serve to dip in the sauce is really unique, and not sure if I've ever had it before.

Last night - chicken parm with sauteed spinach
Tonight - Butter chicken and cauliflower with rice. Sadly, no naan.

Pork shoulders were on sale yesterday for $0.88/lb. So I splurged and spent $10 on two 6 pounders :). Pulled pork for the Super Bowl! And then again some time...

Trader Joe’s has good naan unless you’re eschewing naan :-)

I don’t drink wine at home, so it’s hard to open a bottle to use 2-3 times a week at most for cooking.

I missed the discussion on this, but instead of buying 3 buck chuck (which is barely palatable) use white vermouth. Vermouth is just white wine with herbs. It's slightly higher alcohol content, so it lasts a bit longer once opened. Keep it in the fridge and the bottle will last at least a few months.

Don't buy the cheapest vermouth (Gallo or Martini/Rossi), which is about as good as cooking wine. Buy a good vermouth, like Noilly Prat or Dolin.

If you need red wine to cook with, I suppose you could do 3 buck chuck...but a cheap zinfandel is probably better. Bogle Old Vines Zin is usually around $8-10.

I'm not, although I do normally eschew Trader Joe's. That was fun, not a word I use very often :).
Mariano's naan is perfectly fine (and I don't have to stand in line outdoors in 30 degree weather to get in the store like TJ's). I just don't feel like going out to get it. We already had all the other ingredients here at the house.

We have a new Indian restaurant on the other side of town that has been getting good early reviews, so I may have to use my Amex Uber credit this month to get some good garlic naan delivered soon!

Not sure of the brand, but we like the naan that Costco carries. Wonderful when you toast it a bit. I think there are 12-16 in a package.

Lol. I do know baby food. I think it's the way it shines is that confuses me, but the meal looks lovely and more importantly tasty and that's all that matters. :)

Now, tonight we had tandoori lamb cutlets and a salad with feta. I did the lamb over coal. (my neighbour told me it was a total fire ban day but I told him it wasn't).

the steak was leftover (just popped it oven at 350 after chicken was done) and really for me - maybe 2 ounces of meat? I only had 3 individual thighs because the others were in the freezer. Ideally I would have had a full 4-pack (Costco).

FlyerEC Jan 23, 2021 3:18 pm

Had crab again .

Experimented with stir fried satay babi , tastes more or less just like we had ages ago , will keep tweaking the recipe .

Beef cheek massaman curry with lemon & coriander giant couscous. I cook Thai curry quite regularly, but first time with beef cheeks. Would definitely do again, the slow cooked beef cheek was excellent.

BamaVol Jan 23, 2021 7:04 pm

Grilled salmon, steamed asparagus (too skinny to grill) and mashed potatoes.

Leftover pizza -- lamb sausage, olives and eggplant. (The latter two are things Mr CE won't eat but he got his own!)

Oh, and we broke Dry January.

Trader Joe’s chicken enchiladas
nachos with cheese, hatch chilis, black olives, and jalapeño
chopped cilantro
assorted vegetables
house made guacamole (recurring thanks to corky & bensyd for the avocado confidence!)

I cooked Zahav's Baked Mozzarella Kibbe. Good result, but at 2 1/2 hours of total time, I can't see this becoming a mainstay at my house.

Did those Thai style bbq chicken thighs again. Damn they're good. Did some onions as well and then wrapped them in a tortilla with a tomato, avocado, coriander and cucumber. Very nice.

Ah, so you do the onions in the cast iron skillet directly on the grill. Nice method.

They sure look good! I could just eat that for dinner and forget the soup, salad and/or bread.

Was this a coconut milk/ thai curry paste type marinade or care to share your recipe ?

Eastbay1K Jan 24, 2021 10:43 am

Dinner last night was a lamb stew, seasoned with a lamb rub from the local spice shop. "Hand-mixed from: garlic, cumin, black pepper, cayenne, kimchi chile, Szechuan pepper and ginger. (Salt-free)" And I added some salt. Accompanied by smashed red potatoes finished off in the air fryer, and some steamed broccolini with lemon / garlic.

Sometimes. If I'm doing a slower cook like reversing searing steak then I'll just wrap them in foil and put them in.

I posted iy before it's this recipe. Very simple, but so delicious.

ETA: I halved the garlic because 4 cloves was a lot.

rib eyes are choice steaks from Safeway - $5.99/lb in value pack. Normally $14.99/lb, Club of $8.99/lb, and a U special of $5.99/lb, limit 2 for a one-time use.
my spouse wanted baked potato; my child wanted steak fries. I enjoyed both. They cooked (baked) together in the oven for the same hour and same 500 degree temperature. Easy :-)

I just ordered Girl Scout cookies from a friend’s daughter. Now I really want some cookies now. Sigh.

I know you Americans have a weird rating system for steaks, where does "choice" sit in the hierachy?
