Is that Kosher or Rock salt on the lamb and spinach?
I miss having lamb chops, but my wife has reduced her red meat intake to once a week, and she prefers to have a 1/4 lb. sirloin steak than anything else. I prefer not to cook separate types of meat as it means more clean-up. No way your wife would compromise on once a month lamb? I love steak but these are so flavorful. They are a treat which I don't even have once a month. |

That was dinner here last night. I sliced the leftover NY strip and sautéed it with broccoli, zucchini, onions and peppers.
I have several green peppers that I need to slice today to freeze them. |

Onion is pretty common, too, on pizzas with sausage, green pepper and mushroom.
No dinner for me tonight...lunch was big! Funny thing though, even though that pizza is on nearly every tavern and takeout menu, I never order it. Love the sausage/mushroom/onion combo and I love green peppers, but for some reason I don't want all 4 together on my pizza. My memory had faded (old age I suppose) and we ordered one recently from Barnaby's. The green pepper overpowered everything else. |

Yes, I left onion off as I just reacted to the original post that looked like such a familiar combo. Thanks for catching me on that.

Life is not worth living without lamb chops - and red wine and Maldon Salt (not together) are not far behind.

Actually...I read somewhere long ago that a grain or two of salt (kosher) in a glass of cheap red wine makes it taste better. I tried it and maybe noticed a tiny difference or maybe it was the power of suggestion. |

There was one on Touhy too. I just googled it - temporarily closed. I used to love Barnaby's (and still would if there was one nearby).

Gonna try to order a pizza tonight, which seems like a popular trend here. Probably opt for Sicilian style all meat with mushrooms, less anyone here makes a fuss on how I've forgotten the veggies, yet again. I prefer slices served on a plate with a thin coating of olive oil & balsomic vinegar sprinkled and sprinkled with Parmigiano Reggiano on top. Not proud of this, but I do prefer utensils with pizza.

all this pizza talk is fun but I had leftover pizza as my Saturday luncheon!!

We've tried JP Alberto's a couple times and struck out. We love Union but they don't deliver and R Public House is now only doing pizza Thursday-Sunday. So suggestions are welcome.

My family wants carryout chinese so I mentally sighed and decided that I’ll never be able to cook restaurant chow mein and eggplant requires too much time and energy. I’ll get myself some other dishes in future carryout ordering. Winter (even if 65) blues, I suppose!
Veggie moo shoo with extra pancakes Crab Rangoon Eric’s chow mein Kung pao chicken eggplant with spicy garlic sauce 2 / white rice (my spouse won’t let me cook rice! Argh!!) since 1991... I first went there in 1994 with my fun-loving friends. Eric's Restaurant |
Something called an "Italian Club Sandwich" for luncheon. I picked it up at the supermarket. Actually wasn't too bad for what it was.
Mmmmm....luncheon! |
Had Chinese Hot Pot for dinner!

You might as well pick up rice with your order. I assume that she lets you cook rice other times, right?
i really haven’t been able to properly cook the dishes we had and they were indeed delicious! absence indeed makes the heart grow fonder. future carryout desires: other Chinese food fried chicken bucket (The front Porch) memphis minnie’s bbq (brisket and sides - not pork ribs or pulled pork) sushi At least I’m not craving carryout pizza, shellfish, Indian, or pasta... |

One of these days, I'm going to try and prepare her spaghetti carbonara recipe, and hope I don't turn the sauce into scrambled eggs, again. |
Homemade chicken and vegetable soup. Diced chicken thighs, zucchini, onion, carrot, celery, green beans, potatoes, chicken broth, herbs de Provence. Served with Southern style biscuits and cheap wine ( referred to around here as “Chateau Outhouse” ).

It’s tough to buy the one thing that I can make :-) i really haven’t been able to properly cook the dishes we had and they were indeed delicious! ... You buy sandwiches when you can just buy the ingredients and make them at home plus other take out. For some reason you seem to think that the only reason to go to a restaurant is because you can't make the food at home. You would be cooking for hours & need tons of ingredients if you tried to make 4 different Chinese dishes at home. |

<SNIP> 2 / white rice (my spouse won’t let me cook rice! Argh!!) since 1991... I first went there in 1994 with my fun-loving friends. Eric's Restaurant I ran out of white rice to cook today for Dakila, so I stopped by my regular Chinese Restaurant and a side order was $2.50 tax included. |

When I order Chinese Take Out, White Rice is free with all main dishes, so I just get it even though I order Pork Fried Rice w/o scallions and onions.

Does Tedino's in Edgewater Beach deliver to Rogers Park? They're by Berwyn so might be a bit far for them, but I have cousins who live by the restaurant and have always found their pizza to be decent.

Wish I knew that area better so I could suggest something. Our go-to was Art of Pizza in Lakeview but I doubt they'd deliver that far north.

I really could have made the rice, which was $3.50 for 2 portions plus tax and tip. That would have paid for 20 grams of gummies. |
I'm cooking chicken cassoulet for dinner tonight. I'm not incredibly hungry yet, but I'm figuring that by the time it is ready, I'll be hungry.

actually I bought the sandwiches because they’re tied to the play date. My family only did the play date because of the sandwiches. None of us really wanted to be there and we were excitedly aware of the sandwiches.

So you aren't forced into such an extravagance again, maybe you can make & freeze rice in individual portions sizes some day ahead of this happening again. I keep rice in my freezer (and I would still get the rice from the takeout). |

Well I hope that you can still afford your gummies after splurging on rice for $3.50. :p

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll share with Me. CE. We have very different views on pizza (I'm a Spacca Napoli fan, or Anton's closer to home), and he prefers tavern style. (If it is cut in squares or if I can't fold my face in half, I don't want to touch it.) Tedino's suffers the same issue as JP Alberto's in my mind... There's nothing else on the menu that I'd want to eat :( But he can order one day when I have something else to eat at home.
Yeah, I don't think we were even in their delivery area when we lived in Lakeview. I like Spacca Napoli too. Just depends on what I'm in the mood for. I don't think one should discriminate against any style of pizza :). But I probably side with Mr. CE more often since I try to avoid large amounts of bread. Tying in to "what's for dinner", last night I made a thin crust pizza with a fresh crushed tomato sauce - soppressata, red onion, mushroom, banana pepper & salad with a French vinaigrette. Tonight is flank steak and some kind of vegetable. |
The plan is to make chicken meatballs and serve with sauce over spiralized zucchini. Success hinges on going to the grocery store for zucchini and Parmesan.
