I eat lots of meat, but I struggle with veal. It seems like torture to me. I'm not naive about how big ag produces meat in general, but this seems over the top.

It helps that I never developed a huge craving for veal to begin with. It's not like I have to actively "give it up", considering any restaurant I visit that has veal also has 10 other things on the menu that I like.

a lot of other internet fora close threads after a certain amount of inactivity so they can’t be bumped.

I'm not a big veal eater, but a couple of years ago we were wandering the streets of Amsterdam. We were feeling a bit peckish, so we sat down at a small restaurant near the Vondelpark. The waiter told us the special that day was Weiner Schnitzel, so I ordered it.

OMG was that good! Best veal I've had in my life.

Yummy yum yum!!

I was going to post https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Veal, but it probably didn't exist when the question was asked. Same with LMGTFY?

It did indeed exist when the question was asked - you can check the page history to see what was there as of the last edit before the OP.

Not all veal is cruel.

Bear in mind that the ratio of cows to bulls in any herd, particularly a milk herd, is massively one-sided. Why do you suppose that is? Genetics? No, most bull calves are taken off for slaughter at a young age. Keeping them is simply not economical.

(The maceration/gassing of male chicks is probably less palatable still to public tastes, but an intrinsic part of the egg/chicken production process).

Crate veal is incredibly inhumane. It was outlawed here years ago. As a result, male calves were either wasted or went to animal feed. Then, rose or rosé veal, basically high standard bull calf meat, was promoted. It's excellent (the cheeks and sweetbreads in particular).

If you drink milk or eat beef, the slaughter of male calves is a byproduct of this process. Might as well make something good of it.

Sure it was veal though? Around here (German/Hungarian restaurants in the U.S. and Canada), pork is often substituted, and occasionally I’ve seen it as chicken as well - sometimes the menu will say, or you can surmise which it is from the price.

Until the cows stage a revolt and come looking for us humans, I'm gonna keep eating veal. And if they do, it's resemble the South Park episode.

Had veal parm last night in fact. It was delish.

Know your place in the food chain. Everything we eat, we need to kill.

That's highly unlikely in Europe though, and I suspect (purely a guess) could actually result in legal issues in some European countries that take food labeling very seriously. Pork schnitzel is a dish on it's own, known as schweineschnitzel.
