Ive found the best deals on spices in the Hispanic food aisles at regular grocery stores. Badia I think is the most common brand and they are 1/3 the price of the spices in the baking aisle. Of course you wont find everything you need there but can save a lot on basics like cinnamon, basil or oregano.
Agreed -- Hispanic grocers and grocery store aisle also have better prices. Consumer Reports did a piece on the heavy metal content of popular spice brands and I was a bit bummed that they didn't include any of the major Indian/Mexican spice manufacturers. (Bottom line, most brands have some varieties where some heavy metals were found.)Originally Posted by BamaVol
Not a big Indian population here, although I could drive into Orlando if I wanted something badly enough.Ive found the best deals on spices in the Hispanic food aisles at regular grocery stores. Good game! At Dallas next week. Will try to be in Vegas for it. Dinner tonight is probably something light at an airport lounge--flying out again this afternoon.Originally Posted by gaobest

wow...what a nice thing to say! You just made my day. ☺ No joke--- nothing would make me happier than to have people to cook for so come on over! And wine is a bonus. Originally Posted by gfunkdave

I'll bring wine!
There are plenty of times that I am just eating cheese and crackers for dinner.
Appetizer: goat cheese with cranberry and port sauce, Finn Crisp crackers
Main: grilled chicken patty sandwiches with Buffalo sauce, lettuce and fresh garden tomato slices
Sides: Ranch beans with jalapeos, ruffled potato chips, chopped salad with poppyseed dressing

In my view, all the dishes here look fabulous. Yours however always, at least to me, look as if prepared in a restaurant. For food like that, I'll offer to bring a bottle opposite the color of gfunkdave's, if it'll land me an invite!Originally Posted by corky

My dinner was relatively spartan--several bowls of airport lounge chicken pieces mixed with shredded cheese and ranch dressing. With the recent disruptions and scheduling, wasn't able to eat for around 40 hours, and it actually tasted good! LOL Rerouted my cancelled flight to Vegas to spend the night before heading home tomorrow, and should have a really nice dinner tonight.

A little sprinkle of herbs makes things look fancier.

How could you not eat for 40 hours?? Is that a typo?
Roast pork loin with garlic butter and herbs (plus whole grain Dijon for me because I love mustard with pork)
Kale salad with craisins and poppy seed dressing

Ah, I've been mostly flying redeyes with AS connections in SEA which has been subject to some unexpected IRROPs, probably from a 10% reduction in capacity and inclement weather. We all have our quirks, and one of mine is that generally I won't eat any food before a long flight, especially redeyes, primarily because I don't want to risk getting sick and very risk averse before long flights. So, add all of the delays, missed and rearranged connections and unpredictability of flight scheduling, it all lead to a long delay before I was comfortable eating before my final short connection into LAS.Originally Posted by corky
