I have been in LAS and I always make a trip to In-N-Out when I am there. I am at Mandalay Bay with no car. So..... to work off the burger I head through Luxor and into the medieval nightmare and out into their parking lot. Go across the bridge over 15 and there it is.
While I am eating my Double-Double (yum) I see a lull at the counter and go over and order six more. I get them without lettuce , tomato etc since I am taking these back east with me :) I take them back to the room where I have zip lock bags and a small soft cooler. each example of burgerdom goes into a bag and I fill two larger bags with ice from the ice machine. The cooler is in my checked bag for my 6:35am Fri flight LAS-IAH-AVL. That afternoon I hand out some of them to selected recipients and keep two for myself. They traveled the 2000 miles much better than I had hoped. The one person whom had never had one became a convert to the cult. Now it seems that I am being sent to bring back more..... |
I had wondered if anyone actually did that.

Maybe I'll go to In-n_out for lunch today.

Something to aspire to I guess... How were the buns though... it seems it would be best to have them separate? Was there on the 18th at Sepulveda Blvd... Ordered a 4x4 Animal Style, and Animal Style Fries well done. Got the receipt... was for around $15... looked closer and they put me down for 2x burgers  so I went back and had it reversed. I think one 4x4 was enough for a setting ;) |

If the animal style fries are too much for you, they do carry packets of their sandwich spread that you can ask for. I find the thousand islandish spread goes well with fries without needing all the cheese and onions. Plus you can slather more onto your burgers.

So lucky to have an In-n-Out within walking distance of the in-laws in Diamond Bar. It's not an "eat in" one though, so kinda cancels out the benefit of it being so close. There is another one though at Grand and Lemon AFAIR which is bigger.
I like my burgers as nature intended.. no cheese, no tomato, no beetroot, no mayo, no kiwi-fruit... Bread and meat please. ^ Mark |

(Personally, I rather like bacon and/or a good cheese, although fast food "American cheese" is a pass for me - gets some looks at McD's when I'll order a McDouble, hold the cheese.) That said, having recently left a visit to Australia, I've got to say that beetroot on a burger is only slightly less gross than my local perversion in California (that being avocado.) |
After bringing some In-N-Out Animal Style burgers home with me a few weeks ago as described in post #496 in this thread I wanted some more. Using the wonders of the Google, I found this recipe. WhileI did not grind my own beef (I went to The Fresh Market and had them make me some ground chuck) I followed the recipe and it turned out very close. Yum.

One Double-Double combo with light mustard, lettuce and onion and one single Cheeseburger the regular way and I'm set until December (which is about as much time as I need to work off those calories). |

I learned of "In-N-Out Burger" from attending national drag racing events on the east coast in 1991. Mark Oswald motored the burger chain's funny car at the time and I finally visited one outside of LA in 2004. The food and service was excellent and restaruant very clean.

After hearing numerous people rave about In-N-Out, I finally tried a Double-Double back in late June, while on vacation in So-Cal. While it was quite tasty, it reminded me of a Deluxe from Dick's Drive-In (Seattle burger institution) with lettuce, tomato and onion.
I don't know if it's me or what, but I still prefer Five Guys to In-N-Out. Maybe it's their wide variety of toppings that makes it better. |

Okay FTers, my wife and I have been wondering about this for a while: What is the allure of In-N-Out Brger?
I've lived in SoCal most of my life (with stints in other states and overseas), while my wife is a midwest transplant. People I run into always ask about In-N-Out. Even had a bunch of co-workers here from Texas that HAD to go to In-N-Out. I can make a better burger on the grill at home. I can think of several burger places that I would rather go to (and had cravings for when living elsewhere). So, are there others here that feel the same way? Or, have my tastebuds been destroyed by eating too many MREs and airline food? |
