So is 9:45-10:54 enough time at LAX to go to In N Out, make it back to the airport on time, and make a connection on time? Connection from UA to UAX/SkyWest.

-up to 10 min to wait for parking spot shuttle -7-10 min drive to lot -20 min wait to order and get food (this in and hot is pretty popular and i have waited there for longer then 20 minutes for food. don't forget, everything is fresh) -up to 10 min wait for shuttle to lax -7-10 min drive to lax that's an hour before you even get back to the terminal. it's definitely great food and worth the trip, but not worth missing a flight. i would allow at least two hours since you want to eat it there to avoid soggy fries. |

Damn. I guess I'll just hope and pray that I get bumped off my second leg and rebooked on a different flight 4 hours later.

Any way you look at it you are taking a chance. I've found the one at 4705 S. Maryland Pkwy. , Las Vegas, Nevada 89119 to be the closest and usually the fastest. The only way I would try it is in a cab, eating on the way back. Don't know if you can find a driver that will allow that though.

Just saw this thread again, I waited for about 10 minutes in line at the drive-thru and then about 5 minutes for my food. Oh how it was worth it! 4x2, animal style, protein style, fries, and a lemonade. YUM!!!

Reality check time
In-N-Out is good for a CHAIN burger, there is far better to be had out there in independent foodland if one looks around. Problem is most people don’t so they think In-N-Out is a great burger. Unless the cook doesn’t know how to cook or absolute crap meat is used, a charcoal grilled burger will always triumph a flat top grilled burger cooked to the near well done that an In-N-Out burger and most chain burgers are. Not all folks are going to have a good independent option near them as we’ve become infatuated with chain everything: coffee, clothing, food etc etc. but as stated above most folks simply haven’t tried other places so they don’t know what’s out there. Keep searching, far better is to be had. -- -- |

Also, costs are very different; a fast food cheeseburger fries and drink can be under $5; none of the local burger places I've been to recently are under $5 for just the burger, you're lucky to get out under $8 with fries and a drink (one of my local places does, just - $6.99 for the combo, plus about $0.65 in sales tax.) Add in the time factor (perhaps not so much at super-busy In'n'Out but even for In'n'Out at off hours) and the fast food chains do have their place. |

Do we really need to start another tennis match along these lines? Please just let us enjoy the darn burgers. : ) |

Keep searching, far better is to be had. -- -- I'm sure if you named your favorite burger joint (if you stoop that low to consume ground beef patties like us troglodytes) there will be someone out there who'll criticize your choice. So tomorrow I might go back to In 'N Out and enjoy a wonderful double-double and think of sweet willie and his rant against a burger chain I happen to enjoy. ^ |
There's a semi-independent burger chain around here in New York called Goodburger. Their burgers are very good-and it's even cooked to order on a grill (and they'll cook it medium for you). But at $10 for a burger and french fries, it's a bit steep even if the burger's great.
I've tasted everything from a $1 cheeseburger that mushes flat if you hold it in your hand (from McDonald's) to In N Out to a $14 burger on ciabatta with garlic aoli and real swiss cheese at a hotel restaurant. I don't think I'll ever pay more than $10 for a burger and french fries unless it's made with Kobe Beef or something. A hamburger has to be one of very few foods where quality and flavor peaks so low in the price range. Well that and Mexican food. |
I don't think it is "that good." But it is better than pretty much every other chain burger these days. I take that back - I haven't been to McD's since 1988, so I don't know if they have improved :D I don't think their fries hold up very well if you don't eat them right away. But the burgers are fine. When they opened up here, it was a cult, just like Krispy Kreme. But they proved their staying power outside of their local market, unlike the an overblown donut fad.

As for the french fries, reheat them on a nonstick pan with a tiny bit of oil for about 5 minutes on the highest setting in your oven. I revived a batch of leftover Pommes Frites fries that way, it was still crispy and delicious.
