:)

I left my local supermarket today with about €40 of food which I reckon will feed me and my family for the next 3-4 days.
Simple things like a chicken, stewing beef, vegetables, fruit, pasta, bread, cheese, ham, milk - the usual stuff.
In front of me was a couple who between them must have weighed 35 stones.Their trolley contained a mountain of frozen and packaged food, cans of lager and several bottles of wine and, because I know of them and am aware they live on benefits,I watched as their bill came to €152.
There wasn't a single item that was fresh or required any preparation. The only vegetables were the toppings on the frozen pizzas.
When they got outside both sparked up fags as they waited for the taxi to come and take them home.
I try not to judge people.I really do.
But I knew I was looking at Wayne and Waynetta Slob who spend their lives pleading poverty.
And are too fat to work.

The baroness remarked yesterday that the poor were disadvantaged by not being able to cook and then had to apologise. Trouble is it was a really good point. We just had some of the bagels and they were the best i have both made and eaten.

:)

Okay I confess, I went to McDonalds and got a McRib. Don't judge me!

I made a weird concoction of 50/50 Green onion and pasta. Put a little bit of parm on it along with some olive oil and volia. Had some "white chili" on the side. very good and light. I love onion... and well anything strong and spicy :) had some Tabasco on the Chili too.

Need to watch what I am eating more :D , gf is coming and for Christmas eve I have a wine/cheese "dinner" planned :) along with my birthday dinner and New Years!

I love helping everyone but struggle when I see people like this.

Its very easy to eat healthy on a budget... you just proved that! it takes work and planning though, something not many people think about.

Today's lunch was a clearout soup of stuff lingering at the bottom of my fridge/freezer.
Some chicken strips, onions, kale, spinach, broccoli, spuds and two cloves of roasted garlic.
It looks vile but tastes superb with some crusty old bread dunked in olive oil and roasted in the Aga.
Less than €5 to feed eight people. That wouldn't even buy a packet of fags for Wayne and Waynetta Slob.

And what about those flash sales and buying from markets .... :)

(ps ... OT ...you better tell your mates that appointing Neil to Basildon may return and whack them ...... not a good move ....;) )

I don't see that there is anything to apologise for. I strongly believe being able to cook a meal from scratch is a life skill that our parents should teach us as well as in schools.

Last night I had homemade Macaroni Cheese. Far superior to anything you can buy ready made in a grocery store.

It's a shame you decided to edit out of my post "Trouble is that it was a really good point" therefore misquoting me and reversing the actual opinion I'd expressed.

Agreed about Hamilton.
But Essex folk are not renowned for their intellect so perhaps they've forgotten about cash for questions.
Back to food and I'm an enthusiastic forager among supermarket bargain bins particularly as it drives Mrs Showbizguru bonkers when she enjoys a good meal and I announce how little it costs.
My current fav is bacon offcuts from Aldi. €1.99 a packet, together with a head of cabbage and garlic mashed potatoes I can rustle up a bacon and cabbage dinner for less than €3.
Back of the net !

Apologies. It was my intention to agree with you.

You need Ocado. Flash sales seems to decide a fair amount of what we eat and they are generous refunders of misdemeanours.

Hamilton is going to reverse national Conservative voter sentiment away from ukip, so the issue is much wider than Brentwood.

Poptarts and strong coffee as exam fuel (oh and a Toostie Pop (Hi, Goalie!) that my professor was handing out.

On my way to a post-exam Sushi Lunch now.

I had three, the one I was the least worried about ended up being the hardest and the two I was terrified of were not difficult, go figure.

Lunch was great: two Sapporos, seaweed salad and a couple of crazy "everything but the kitchen sink" rolls. Plus, i was using my new Dividend Miles MasterCard which I applied to my new Dividend Miles dining account so it was lucrative too ^
