This New Year's Eve, we will probably drink not much of anything as we are having a party and one of our closest friends went off the wagon and doesn't want to be around any alcohol until he is sober again for awhile. Other people that are coming either aren't big drinkers anyway or they are coming quite a distance and don't want to drive home afterwards and risk a DUI.

Three Squirrels of course. An undiscovered English sparkler which I enjoy, and can only be bought directly from the producer. It's still important to remember that good sparkling wine need not be produced in Champagne itself ..... in my opinion, and I have spent quite some time in the area becoming accustomed to what are considered good sparkling wines both by French and International oenologues, there are a lot of unpleasant sparkling wines that do come from there that disappoint. I still consider the pleasurable taste of my 'bubbly' to be more important than its price, regardless of its area of production as my number one criterion.

Not sure yet, but I'm broke this year, so it won't be too extravagant (i.e. Domaine Ste. Michelle is at the top end of my price range this year).

No champagne. We will start the evening with some nice domestic Osetra caviar and blinis accompanied with some good chilled vodka. With dinner we'll have a nice, dry Prosecco (have been spending a lot of time in VCE
)

Prosecco is greatly under-rated (excellent choice) but the good stuff is difficult to find in the US (outside of CA). As for vodka, some of the best is the cheapest, for example TJ in LA sells Monopolowa (made in Austria 100% from potatoes and better than vodkas costing 5 times as much, including all grain vodkas which simply don't have the enzymes that potatoes provide to burn off the impurities).
