Well, when the alternative is the noted culinary accomplishment, "SOS" (AKA "Sh*t on a Shingle", the military interpretation of "Sloppy Joes", but now and again on the breakfast menus, "Foreskins" are to be anticipated. The other noted Navy breakfast, Saturday mornings prior to galley inspection, hard boiled eggs and baked beans (cooked in a steam caldron to reduce the number of pans to be scrubbed) is not high on my liking list.

The 4-8? Deck/bridge/CIC/engineering watch, awakened at 0330, ready to relieve the watch by 0345, hoping that the messenger has brought up fresh coffee, 4AM until relieved for breakfast, usually about 0730. The "Darkness before dawn" stint, when all's quiet with the world, in the old days before SATNAV/GPS, little to do but pulling out the sextant for the morning star sights, but the occasional close encounter with the third kind, another vessel, some of which have less than astute hands on the bridge and standing lookout. Good times exercising the junior watch officers awaiting qualification in the arcane art of the maneuvering board, fishing boat lights, and the minimum acceptable CPA.

The best breakfast in San Francisco (IMHO) is two eggs over easy with ham and the best SOUR DOUGH TOAST on the planet at the Buena Vista Cafe.

A couple (maybe 3) of years ago, we stayed at The Westin Ft. Lauderdale on A1A for the Freddies. They have a Shula's onsite that served breakfast and I had eggs benedict with lobster there that was to die for two days in a row. It was so good that when we moved down to The Westin Diplomat for the weekend, I wanted to drive back to The Westin Ft. Lauderdale to have it for breakfast again.

Best regards,

How about Irish Coffee? It was supposedly invented there.

Waking up in Fisherman's Wharf, yes, will probably make you want to get some booze in your system asap.

Thumbs up Crowne Plaza Breakfast after Vancouver - Singapore

The Singapore Changi Airport Crowne Plaza breakfast buffet was astonishing for its "getting" both European and
Singaporean (southern Chinese, Malay and southern Indian) breakfast dishes. Superb quality (apparently croissants get mysteriously spongy in North America!), and cheerful staff at dark o'clock. A reason to choose that hotel again!

I always thought that would be really disgusting, until I tried it when some of the syrup accidentally came into contact with scrambled eggs. It was actually pretty good.
