I'll see that bump and raise you two...
Also from Kansas, where it was always "pop." But certainly not a pop; we always asked for some pop.
And now, for the really fun stuff: Who ever asked for, and got, Graveyards at the little league games? I've also heard these referred to as Suicides.

I grew up in Kansas saying "pop," went to school in Utah where I continued saying it, but spent a summer in NYC where I felt like such a rube that I switched to "soda." I still say it now that I'm back in SLC. However, I would say "Coke machine" or "pop machine," not "soda machine." A lot of people here seem to use the generic "drink" to mean a nonalcoholic, sweetened (usu carbonated) beverage, as in, "let's go to 7-11 and get a drink" (insert your Utah liquor joke here
). My nephew born & raised here always wants a "drink" from the Coke machine, not a soda/pop/Coke, etc.</font>

Growing up in Atlanta, my parents always told me we call it "Coke" there because that's where Coca-Cola's headquarters are. Not sure if that's the reason though.
Why do Michiganders (- especially Detroiters - ) continue to mididentify convenience stores with that other highly misleading term?
And one of our famous downtown restaurants is "Nelson's Buffeteria."

I use the term "soft drink" generically, or "cola" if referring to a particular, non-fruit-flavored type of soft drinks "Pop" sounds crude, and "soda" is not much better. As for saying "Coke" generically, to refer to any soft drink? Never heard the word used that way.
And you, ConcordeBoy, what do you say?

I'll be you didn't grow up in Texas, then? A completely unexceptionable statement would be: "What kind of cokes do y'all want: I have cokes, Big Red, Dr Pepper, and Grape Nehi."
