I recommend a Yeti to keep things cold.

Ugh. I gotta disagree. Can't speak to the food, but their whole "buy poker chips for $8 a piece and exchange them for food and drink" business model sucks. Went last night and the place was pretty dead. I'm not a fan of the fact that they allow smoking in the outdoor area. The "ambiance" leaves a lot to be desired. My friend and I ordered a Lost Rhino and Bells's Oberon. We got the Lost Rhino, but a Bell's Two Hearted instead. And that took 5 minutes. The bartender didn't seem to know a lot about beer (or where they kept it). They are selling a Dogfish Head variety (120 Minute IPA, I believe) for FIVE chips. That's $40 at their $8/chip conversion rate. Some other varieties are 2 chips. I don't remember anything that cost 3 chips or 4.

Just an insane business model. Plenty of bars in the world are super busy, but their bartenders don't seem to have any trouble handling payments AND dolling out drinks. I understand they served 1,500 people at their Grand Opening on Sat., but that's not gonna be the norm. Add on the fact that they have almost zero parking and I give them about a year before they close up shop. Nothing like drinking in an empty parking lot, which is essentially what their "garden" space is.

Sorry. End of rant. I'm just so disappointed by their product. It had so much potential.

Harsh. If I lived anywhere in the area, you'd have convinced me not to visit.

Sorry. Wish that wasn't the case, but I really don't see their product being a success. I don't think I'm that hard to please, but I found the payment system completely off-putting. $8 for a beer? Ridiculous. I know that (and worse) is the norm at a lot of professional sports venues, but we're talking about a bar here. I suspect part of the problem is where they decided to put it. The rent cannot be cheap.

I'll pay $8, $12 even for the right beer. $40? Nuh uh.

In addition to the Lazy Magnolia Pecan, presently there exists in the fridge:
Andygator Helles Doppelbock, Terrapin Hopsecutioner, Sierra Nevada Otra Vez (still quite possibly my favorite beer), Coors Lite, and that horrendous vile Blue Moon Peach (sadly, Goodwill doesn't accept beer donations :D).

Agreed. I found a 24 pack of Karbach Hopadillo (a Houston brew) at a local Costco for $20 a couple months ago which was an awesome deal. 24 of that retails for ~$30 normally.

Yeah, if you catch Costco right there can be great deals on closeouts. Once I saw the excellent Sierra Nevada Celebration for $10 a case, down from the usual $24, which is already a great price.

I'd have bought it all, but it is meant to be consumed fresh.

And after Christmas they often mark down the gift sets well below retail. And you get free glassware!

Sorry, dupe

That does sound terrible. (as does Coors Light)

I will admit to at least twice getting a beer so bad that I didn't know what to do with the rest of the six pack. Instead of wasting beer, I used the fact that I lived in an apartment in the middle of the city to my advantage and put it outside in the hall with a note on it. Both were taken very quickly and hopefully enjoyed by someone other than me.

I've been stuck with several 5-packs of lousy beer. I will use it to make beer bread or chicken or wash my hair. When Mr. Kipper was in the Marine Corps, our unwanted beer was often a good bargaining chip to convince others to take his duty for the day. :D

Coors Lite is for when people with few taste buds come over, LOL. I like the out in the hall idea. May try that when I return to my apartment residence south of here.

Beer bread...hmm, good idea. Wonder if a beer bottle would work the same as a can in Beer Can Chicken. As for the Marines story...hahaha, classic!

So my friend and I ended up at the Whole Foods bar about 2 miles away and spotted SIX PACKS of the same $8 beers for $11. The $40 Dogfish Head was about $12 at Whole Foods. I guess I won't pay $8, even for "the right beer" when I know I can enjoy it at home for much, much less. I will tolerate the $6 charge at Whole Foods.

Actually, I might pay $8 for the right atmosphere. I don't find the new biergarten to be that place.

Beer bread, adding it to chili, beer can chicken, etc. :D

It worked well when he needed to get out of duty. The guys usually drank anything.

Actually I paid $6 for 0.3L of Hefe Weizen Dunkel and $14 for a six beer flight (I don't know the size but they were very small glasses) at the Hofbrauhaus last night and felt privileged to do so. But of course it's all about the atmosphere. I was seated in a comfortable chair on a shaded sidewalk one block from the beach at Pier Park as I ogled the scantily clad female vacationers walking by. A smoky brat on a pretzel bun didn't hurt either. There's a biergarten around back but it lacks the view and perhaps back there $6 is too much for 0.3L of beer. Inside, the benches are a little too hard and you have to listen to Beatrice playing the accordion so only in the dead of winter or a rainy day is it worth the $6.
