Every routing from the UK to the US when I checked a few months ago for August came up in the £600 range, even just MAN-EWR. However, add in ATL & it reduced the fare to £248, even though it's a 3 day stop-over in NY. Sounded like a good hub in ATL to go wherever from there after a night at the IC Buckhead, plus a mini-MR to boot!(not that I let the missus know it was mileage friendly!)

Please, no-one ask why I'm flying in Y - this was before became FT-wise, & now I have enough miles for 2 1st class tix to anywhere, incl. Mauritius, I can't as she doesn't want to bin these tix.

She's looking for somewhere we can get away from it all, even though won't be driving, either on a beach or on a lake - somewhere luxurious, our own villa or lodge, but not usurious - I don't much like the prices have seen and want to utilise my RA status with IC, therein lies an argument currently having.

Bahamas.

Lots of options at http://www.seaisland.com. You can spend more than you can imagine or you can spend just enough. I suggest The Cloister. All expenses included, private villas, incredible food, and great southern hospitality. Fly to Brunswick or Savannah from Atlanta.

If this guy could afford the Cloister then he wouldn't be trolling for cheap deals and flying to ATL for his honeymoon.

He'd pay full fare first class on BA to the Canary Islands.

It's his honeymoon. If he's smart, he'll know that no price is too great a price to pay for lodging and food on one's honeymoon. I'm assuming he knows this but....maybe not.

WHEN is this honeymoon?

For breathtaking beaches go to the gulf of mexico....Florida panhandle or west coast.....but check to see that there is anywhere to stay as last summers hurricanes really ruined many places.....

I don't know what your price range is... but check out the bahamas. The Atlantis resort is fun - not exactly intimate...but there is plenty to do.

Another version of that would be to go to the Ocean Club in the bahamas... its basically right next door to atlantis, but its true luxury. And with atlantis right next door (and full access as they are bothed owned by Kerzner) you can have as much or as little as you want of the orlando-esque feel.

I HIGHLY recommend the ocean club if you can afford it. Most comfortable bed i have EVER slept in. Incredible spa as well. Dunes is also an incredible restaurant.

$700/night I suppose is our budget roughly - although to me that sounds like I failed to get a good deal & am paying full whack, if you know what I mean. We've been checking out this place, SeaIsland, already actually - to me it feels a bit too sugary, and would be as if we've come all this way to America (she's never been stateside ever & I haven't since I was 15) just to then escape from it at this resort.

As for Canaries 1st class El Perro mentions- no idea if I'm missing a joke here? a) BA dont fly 1st class there, and b) I'd be the laughing stock of everyone I know here in the Uk if went there for a honeymoon, as it's more of a traditional £99 Chartered flight holiday for the mass market, type-place, although I understand it has some great natural features to be explored - sadly these type of people rarely venture beyond the English Bulldog pub on the strip.

What time of year are we talking here?

If not late spring or summer, you're not going to want to be anywhere north of Orlando.

I believe he mentioned August. Better find a place that's got a nice breeze.

St Augustine has a lot of history and might be the kind of place you are looking for. Cocoa Beach and New Smyrna Beach both have more of a "real florida" atmosphere if you are looking for a more authentic local feel, but they aren't as jazzy as the resort towns. As discussed, Miami has the night life. And the florida keys have a surreal feel to them - especially key west - if you are looking for more of a spectacle. If you want to stay in the US, that might be your best bet for a truly memorable honeymoon destination. Any of the places mentioned though will have prices well below what you're looking at to give a better feeling of getting a deal.

Seriouosly think about a rental car out of Atlanta if you do not want to fly too far. If you have never been to the US, you can head into many DIFFERENT places to visit. If you want beaches, then Destin area would be great.

If price were no object he wouldn't be stuck in Atlanta looking for stuff to do on his honeymoon.

IMHO he should catch an AirTran or Delta cheapo flight to Florida or the Bahamas. Disney, Atlantis, or the Florida Keys.
