returning from a conference in TPA in two weeks ... I'm perfectly willing to drive to MCO for a flight to DTW and the new A339 Suites DTW-SEA for 50K (~$800 cash fare; connection from TPA was ~$950 or 97.5K)

Just booked a friend on her no status account MCO-SLC-SEA for 11K of her 11767 miles in Basic Economy (she won't be checking luggage). OTOH, she has a 34 minute connection to the last flight of the day SLC-SEA. This will be on time I will be advising her to try to get a seat further forward in the MCO-SLC plane on check-in even if it is a middle seat. This flight isn't until July 2020, so I suspect schedule changes may result in getting an improved connection times or a better routing.

we are currently 9 months out; I would guess there will be at least two (perhaps as many as four) schedule changes that will impact one or both of these flights enough to where she’ll be able to switch to a more desirable itinerary with little to no pushback

Booked my wife and I from LAX-MSP on our way home from Australia in January. (We're flying United on the long-haul flights in and out of LAX in Polaris Business as I had systemwide upgrades leftover from the 1K status I earned before moving over to Delta. No LAX-MSP direct flights on United, though.)

19,000 per person wound up being a 1.2 CPP redemption value, and Delta Comfort was available immediately. Not the best redemption value, but we're on one salary (she's in a PhD program, so saving $450-500 is valuable for us!)

Since you're PM, you have free redeposits. You can always keep an eye on it to see if a cheaper price becomes available on that flight or another that day.

I just realized this today. Thanks for the heads-up. Figured only DM got this as it’s a perk reserved for 1K on United.

NYC- Reno

Just got two Basic economy tickets for 22,000 each round trip. Thought it was incredible value as I just received a message today my best friends dad died. We leave Monday evening and my to Reno and then back on Friday. Cash price was $302 each which we don’t have currently so I thought it was a stellar deal when everything else was 40-70,000 points. Will just have to drive a little over 5 hours for a funeral.

I've 3 back-to-back-to-back pet sitting gigs next spring.
So, RDU-LHR-SEA (2 long pet sits near Oxford and York and a week in London) D1 and VS Upper 166,000 miles and $296.00 (could have booked all DL metal with a connection on the return for 160,000 miles and $302).
Then SEA-RDU on a red-eye, and not a 737-9 (though that may change) 16,000 miles and $5.60. Upgraded to premium economy at purchase.
Will keep watching for lower availability or maybe a sale.

JFK to NICE, Fr Direct flight

Booked flight 412, late May 2020, Delta One. JFK to NCE, Direct, 80,000 SKYMILES. Often I look for this flight on the calendar, and all I see is 320,000 miles one way for Delta One.
I had to book separate award Norfolk, VA (ORF) to JFK , to connect. An additional 17,000 Skymiles for Delta Comfort.
I’d like to marry both segments, so I can check bags straight thru, but so far no luck with that. I’ll HUCA. I’m pleased.

Don't worry about marrying the segments. DL will check your bag through on separate tickets assuming they're both DL metal.

DL will check bags through on separate tix ... the check-in agent at ORF should be able to bring up your record without even looking at a BP

Booked my wife a RT ticket from MSP-OMA for my firm's holiday party weekend and a college buddy's wedding. Cash price was $249 for basic economy. Award price was 12,000 miles RT for the times we wanted. Nothing flashy, but 2 cpp is always welcome to me!
