You could just hidden city it. Baggage won't get loaded on the connection if you're not on the plane, and LHR has DL agents there, so no KLM or AF people to hear their nonsense about paying to get bags back.

It's definitely available by itself - but it will cost 160K miles by itself.

As mentioned, I have to book a RT to avoid paying the hefty EU origination surcharge. I have a seat on the December 22nd flight, so no big deal (although it would be nice to have an extra day).

Strange award quote. VS UpperClass awards to UK (and presumably EU) are 86K (with 60-day advance). They are quoting the AF/KL rate. Usually the awards are based on whoever flies you over the Atlantic, not the short-haul flights.

Europe to South America around Christmas / New Year:
Outbound : CDG-SCL 90k on Air France J (787)
Return CTG-AMS-ZRH 80k on KLM J (787)
Very happy with the flights, but need to figure out SCL-CTG, which prices out at 500$-600$ oneway in Y on Latam, Copa or Avianca. Neither of the options is available for miles using Alaska (Latam) or United (Avianca, Copa). Any other ideas for cheap intra-South America tickets? Anything within South America looks expensive epscially around holidays.

JFK - LHR // LHR - DTW - RDU x2
31k/person for late July/early August 2020 with instant upgrade to C+ (refurb 764 outbound + A332 on return). Ultimate destination is Ireland so Platinum perk in full swing here with easy cancel and re-deposit if fare sale to Ireland pops up.
No complaints about value on that one (even if it is "only Y")

52k miles r/t to in FC JFK to CUN nonstop.
I go every year to Cancun to cash in my Hyatt free Cat 1-7 night and this was the miles cost to bring my GF. It's early January, so I paid cash to get a jumpstart on the qualifying season. Cash rate was under ~700, so any time I can get more than 1 cent per mile on Delta I am happy.

5/6/2020 DCA-DTW-JFK-MAN (JFK-MAN is on VS 747, yes business class is downstairs, but still on a 747).
6/9/2020 LHR-DTW-DCA
166,000 miles +$302.83 in D1, FC, and Upper Class.
Not cheap, but seems to be the new 160,000 mile standard with a premium for MAN.
Canceled this one when the sit dates changed, now flying the VS 787-9 from LHR-SEA.

Needed a specific flight MSP-SFO flight on a weeknight. 16.5k at about 1.2 CPM...
As soon as I booked it, the cash price went up $20 and the miles price went up 19.5k (more than doubled...)

$516 Purchase price JFK-SLC round trip during ski season (week before President's week). 40,000 miles/ticket. Not horrible.
Also just used my DL Amex Plat companion cert for the same flights, though it took going from $516 to $560 for the inventory to change (K to L) in order to open up. So got a $560 free flight. not bad.

Successfully upgraded 2 seats to Virgin Upper Class BOS - LHR with 25,000 sky miles each from paid Premium Economy tickets (I've been calling for about a month to upgrade, and they didn't have availability - about 2 weeks ahead of the date of flight there were 2 upgrade seats available! yay!).

Very much anecdotal, but shopping for DCA/RDU to LHR in D1 next May and for the week I checked, the only to LHR itins that priced at 160,000 RT used the new day flight JFK-LHR. All the overnight flights came up at 300,000 miles RT.

Peak married-segment stupidity. This is available as an award, but there's no space on just IAD-LHR. Called DL to confirm.
<pic deleted>
I'd consider just getting off in London and leaving, but if I book this as a one-way I get hit with the EU origination surcharge on the return.

There is no availability for this particular VS award period, unless it's linked to the KLM flight to AMS.
