Why not, now that miles have a pseudo-cash value?
Of course, this pov may also be a function of my being retired and able to search/use SM for domestic deals.

Family of 5 flying round trip LAX to Cancun for 17.5k miles each... getting 5 people round trip to the Caribbean for less than 90k miles felt like a huge win for me (fees were a few hundred bucks total)
Air Houston and krakendown like this.

TYS-ATL-BOS-LIS rt, pricing out at $1800 (!!!) and 74k SM main cabin for mid Aug. Got 3. Looks like a domestic or Hawaii 757 on the BOS-LIS leg with the first class seats rebranded as PS (lol). Let’s see if it drops....

RDU-JFK-CPH mid-August
PRG-JFK-RDU early-Sept, total 3 week trip First and D1, but because it uses the DL JFK-Europe flights, no Euro Business.
128,000 SM +$53.23 using the 2 day sale on the delta.com login spash page.
Searched for 128,000 mile RTs to CPH and PRG and then combined the successful dates.
Cheapest cash price I could find (also on the sale?) is about $3300.

That sale is only from specific cities right, and only through like August?

The splash screen shows specific origin cities but has the language Don’t see your city listed? Click Book Now and enter your city for more deals. DCA isn't listed but I found 128,000 SM availability from DCA to multiple EU destinations.
And the dates are book by March 1, 2019, and travel from August 7 through September 5, 2019. And the small print talks about SkyTeam and code-share partners.

They have had these 128K Europe awards around for or at least a week or two. While the two-day award sale says the awards are only good for 8/7 - 9/5, the fare rules for the CSVR640 fares say they are good from 6/30 - 9/6 and I'm definitely seeing availability for these awards in the July on a number of routes.

Thanks, I tried a bunch of searches out of SFO. First of all, round-trips only, no one-ways or multi-city itineraries.

Almost all of them have pretty unattractive schedules either outbound or return. For instance, around 25 hour returns from Italy and 25 hour outbounds to Germany. Even CDG was over 20 hours for the return and worse in other cities in France.

Only one that had tolerable schedules both ways were LHR but that had a $315 fee. The places I'm looking to visit are either NCE or VRN so I could buy separate flights out of LHR, probably have to spend at least one night in London on the return. It's doable but probably would cost me another $400 or more for the additional flight.

I haven't even figured out how much it would cost to transfer 128k MR points but add that and the savings from the sale versus redemptions on other airlines are probably out the window.

Maybe if I decide to visit the UK in late August, early September, this fare sale would work out but I don't know if the UK, including probably Scotland, would be the place to visit at that time of the year.

FCO-AMS-GLA one-way on KL in Economy
15,000 SM plus $53

This usually wouldn’t warrant a post here but in this case due to WX irrops, KL cancelled the FCO-AMS leg the day before and re-booked me on LH for a FCO-FRA-GLA itinerary. This allowed me to sample a couple of LH Business lounges using my (non DL) AMEX Platinum card which I found superior to the AMS lounge options and I noticed KL paid LH a full Y fare so I got to earn about 1,600 UA MP miles. Not usual you get to EARN miles on an award ticket.

Just booked ATL - JNB - ATL for the new year holiday.

Due to the even more insane pricing, we passed on the 930,000 per person Delta wants for D1 suites

59,000 JFK-AMS R/T non stop in Y. Bought for my girlfriend to meet me in Amsterdam on a trip I booked before we met. Not the best deal, but not a bad use of extra skymiles lying around.

Still hoping a good flash sale will come and I can rebook at a lower rate

I'd just booked a JFK-NAS rt in F for 56k last night, and this morning it drops to 54k. Thankfully I'm within the 24hr risk-free cancellation window, so just cancelled and rebooked, saved myself 4k miles yay. Not an amazing redemption value at 1.45cpm, but not bad for SkyPesos.
