One of the things I've learned on here (although I've never had to apply it) is if you take a VDB, as part of the compensation, you should have the agent put a note in your record that you are to receive ORC as part of your VDM compensation.

The "V" in VDB stands for "voluntary". DL has shifted to the position -- probably rightly -- that the deal you cut is the deal you cut. If you want ORC, make it part of your VDB deal and have the agent handling the reroute put a note in your record. When you request the ORC, specifically mention the note in the record.
There is no such thing as an ORC rule, so it is always a customer service gesture. In the case of VDB, it's easily handled.

I think in the past Delta would give the original mileage. But I have noticed more and more people asking this same question. As such, I think the credit is no longer unless you negotiate it up front. And even then in my experience they will not agree to it.

I've seen that advice many times too, but quite frankly I think it has no real factual basis, I don't believe gate agents or even a Red Coat would have the authority to authorize or grant ORC.

I don't think they could grant the ORC either - my guess would be that the agent or red coat putting a note in the PNR would help the person's case for getting ORC afterward though. If I ever do VDB and end up on a route with less mileage, I will be sure to ask for it as part of my compensation package though.

Hi - new poster to flyer talk but have been reading for awhile.
I originally booked LGA-MCI but flight was cancelled and was rebooked LGA-DTW-MCI. While the MQM are about the same (1100), I'm also part of the "LGA Double" promo. Do you think I could request ORC so I could get the bonus MQM??

Original Routing Credit?
My original route was IAD-JFK-SVO paid fare all on DL. And SVO-NCE award ticket on SU.
My IAD-JFK never took off due to weather, I got on the plane twice and was brought back to the gate. I spent hours at IAD and tried to get on AF and KL flights but the plat desk kept saying it wasn't possible.
After almost 10 hours I finally realized that I would never get to JFK that day. I called the plat desk again and begged them to put me on Brussels' IAD-BRU-NCE and they did.
I know it was a "nice" thing they did just because I'm a PM, but is there any way they would give me MQMs based on my original reservation?

Fill out the DL form online and see how they respond. Alternatively, call and if you don't get the answer you like, hang up and call back.

For complicated original routing credit requests like this, I suggest faxing the request (404-773-1945). Include a cover page with a brief explanation of the situation and outline exactly what dates, flight numbers, routes, and approximate number of miles you are requesting for each leg. Include copies of all receipts, itineraries, boarding passes, etc. for your original journey and what you actually flew. This is the best way to make your case and provide all of the supporting materials necessary at once, something that can't be accomplished by phone or through the online mileage request. Good luck...I suspect you'll get the outcome you want.

help with ORC
Originally booked on Delta V fare flying HKG-NRT-MSP-DTW-YOW.
HKG-NRT went mechanical on June 4 and Delta put me on UA flying HKG-ORD-YOW.
I believe Delta automatically open a case that offered me 7500 miles for the flight cancellation. (I never filed any complains).
I need some help on how to get miles for my original Delta flights.
Should I respond to the Delta case (I have a case number)?
Is 7500 miles a reasonable compensation from your experience?
thanks.
