So my Select tag arrived today, but I am a little confused...other than putting it on a bag, what does one do with it? I mean, what benefit would it convey to the owner?

It would convey to medallions, GAs, and FAs that you've been assigned to carry FO's bags onto the plane while they're busy carrying DM's bags.

Sell it on eBay to people who may confuse it with a Medallion tag?

Just in time for the holiday season. Looking for something for the Diamond medallion member in your life who has it all? I bet they don't have one of these!

I bought this for my wife as she gets really paranoid about getting her bag on and usually in MC1 it's fine. Drink tickets made it a wash anyway basically.

However, the purchasing process was very glitchy. I ended up getting charged twice (two holds on my amex placed) and she received 16! drink vouchers. Only 1 charge eventually was posted but she still has all of the vouchers. Good job Delta!

I had plans on purchasing the skymiles select package, mainly to be able to board with Main 1, because many times all I need is a basic fare ticket with no check baggage.

But, what I noticed last time I purchased a basic fare ticket, when the boarding pass printed out it said "Main 1". And I boarded with everyone else. And I selected my seat online 2 minutes after online check-in was available and selected an aisle seat that I was eyeballing a few days before. So, the skymiles select package wouldn't even be worth it.

I still have no clue why my boarding pass was Main 1. Maybe, the credit card (Delta) I used?

Yes:

"Medallion Members, others with elite status, and Delta SkyMiles American Express credit card holders continue to enjoy their boarding benefits."

Thanks Zorack!

I'll try to remember that, because unfortunately I'll be using my amex plat card to get my fare reimbursed on another flight, so I'll end up boarding last

It's having the card that matters, not particularly using it.

I had read that somewhere else, so I guess I'll still be boarding Main 1. Thanks again! One thing for sure I'll be keeping my Delta card for sure, and especially since this year they are giving out $100 reimbursement that will pay for the AF.

Has anyone heard if there are any plans to revive this product or is it done and dusted? The information on the Delta page indicates they stopped offering it in April of this year but little more than that.

There's a Thrifty Traveler article with a quote attributed to Delta:

Due to decreased demand of these travel-related benefits and as we look to reduce costs to focus on our core business, SkyMiles Select will be suspended starting April 1. We’ve received great feedback from customers on this test and we’re sorry for the inconvenience.
I suspect it was due to alcoholic beverage service being suspended... I think it will be back, I just wish the benefits were slightly better, though it does have to occupy an odd market segment that it shares with the Delta-branded Amex cards.

Now get rid of Basic Economy. Changes are free anyways, overhead bin space is readily available and everyone is guaranteed a window or aisle. Whats the point?

I still have the drink vouchers and see they expire at the end of 2021. Any chance these get extended?
