All of the alcohol in DCA SC is free that’s why I’m wondering if this is club specific to compensate for the construction or if they are going to roll it out club wide. Yes its $8 in the store but yes it’s drinkable and there’s plenty of reviews to back that up. I far prefer it to the Prosecco in-flight.

The club has been less crowded lately, usually there's myself (and my wife every now and then) and a few congressman sitting around. Definitely looking forward to the new club, as I took IAD out of my list unless there is a non-stop, international flight more convenient than making a stop in one of the hubs. Yes, upgrades are easier out of IAD, but I can get from the office in DC to DCA in 15 minutes or from the hotel in Arlington to DCA in 10 minutes to catch a 7:00 pm flight. Security at DCA is most of the time a breeze compared with IAD. If I need to flight out of IAD at 7:00 PM, I can easily lose half of my afternoon.

Dulles is a remote outpost I'm convinced that no one ever actually uses. It's a conspiracy man.

I fly to D.C. very frequently and have only ever used IAD twice (once due to cost and the other was IRROPS). Going out to IAD from Arlington or the district feels like I’m driving way out West Virginia and then have another long haul just to get to the gate. If I can’t fly out of DCA, I’ll go to BWI which IMO is easier to get to from the district than going to IAD. The office that I work with is just two blocks from Union Station and I can just hop on a MARC train and be at BWI station in 30 min. Compare that to IAD were I’ll have to get an expensive Uber or Cab to IAD and pray that I66 isn’t a parking lot.

There should be a high-speed rail line from Leesburg to Union Station (stopping at IAD), but God forbid the US is ever that forward thinking with infrastructure.

Instead we're stuck with the disaster that is the Silver line, that will still take a million years to get from downtown to IAD (assuming VA, DC, and the localities ever get the funding for the final stage sorted out).

The silver line will be my consolation prize. At least it will take less than my usual Downtown Paris - CDG in the RER B.

Everyone acts like the Silver Line will be a game changer for IAD when in reality it will still be almost an hour ride to Metro Center and with the reliability of WMATA rapidly declining, it won’t really make that much of a difference. The least they could have done for us was build the IAD station underground beneath the hourly parking lot but WMATA had to go cheap and put the station 600 feet away from the terminal. IAD is truly an embarrassment for being the main “international airport” for our nations capital. Having to get off a long TPAC or TATL flight and board busses to the IAF is auful combined with the state of Concourses C and D as well as no real public transportation to downtown.

You could make the same point without turning to insults toward DC residents. I know it's in fashion right now to rail against the "swamp," but there are plenty of folks like me that live in the District and have nothing to do with the federal government.

This and the people that live in Alexandria too

Yes, I take a hop to JFK from DCA rather than schlep out to IAD for the non-stop across the Atlantic. Working within a ~5 min walk from L'Enfant metro just makes it too easy! Yes there is the #5 bus from there to IAD but who knows what traffic will do and the airport is often a cluster when you get there (or especially when you get back). Even without a decent SC and even with the hassle of 35X when traveling AA, DCA is just the best.

I like BWI but there's no lounge and the shoe shine stand is gone. I'd say upgrades out of Dulles are easier than Baltimore, which I think gets a little more business travelers. Uber X from the Georgetown Marriott to BWI is about $45-50. And yes, without traffic, it can be as close or closer than Dulles.

There's a lounge in BWI accessible with Priority Pass that is always overflowing, I only go there for a mojito and then find a good spot in the gate area (there are usually several empty gates). If flying during the weekend or early in the morning, Amtrak could be faster than the taxi, but the Amtrak-BWI shuttle is just annoying.

It would be fine to terminate at IAD. As it is, the Silver Line will be useful for tourists, students, and others with time to spare getting there. I won't be among them.

Word's out about the very limited space, it seems.

I live 15 miles due south of IAD, but there is no logical public transit link. I always feel ripped off having to pay $10 per day in parking lots in the middle of nowhere with inconsistent bus service to and from the terminal building. There are no private parking lots at IAD.

The rumors of the Mafia's demise are greatly exaggerated. They control the MWAA after all.

The good news is when the Silver Line Phase II opens up, one of the stations near IAD will more than likely have overnight parking and if it’s like the Franconia-Springfield Metro will be a flat fee of $4.95 and free if you exit on the weekend.
