I was in the DCA club this morning (Thursday 4/19) in the 0500 hour. It looks like the real renovations have finally begun; the toilets now have construction walls around them. There are signs advising club members to use the facilities across the concourse from Gate 15. Furthermore, the entrance has reverted to its original location; it appeared to me that Delta had installed new dual lateral moving doors with a motion sensor. There was an artist rendering I hadn't seen before that suggests that the concierges will have a counter inside the door.

When you enter, you make a 90 degree turn to the right and go down a construction corridor where you see the new wooden wall on the right that is depicted in the renderings. You come out near the temporary buffet where they keep the coffee and the snacks. I spoke with a female Delta employee (not in uniform, but wearing credentials); I'm guessing she is a manager of some sort. She was very nice. She told me that they now expect to be done with the renovations "in 6 weeks". That would be somewhere around June 1.

Thanks for this update. It's been about three weeks since I was in the DCA club and the employees seemed frustrated by the pace. I almost wish they had just closed it for 3-4 months, gotten it done and then reopened.

Full open bar until the renovations are complete. I'm rather enjoying the pace.

I’m here now and One week later it’s the same. Restrooms closed still. I think that this won’t be done until close to June. Wow has this been a long slog.

This post is not related to the SkyClub as much as it is related to Metro access to DCA next summer. WMATA (the operator of Metro) announced on Monday 5/7/18 that they will be closing the metro lines south of DCA (to both Huntington and Franconia-Springfield) for a total of 14 weeks in the summer of 2019 to renovate the Braddock Road, King Street, Eisenhower Avenue, Huntington, Van Dorn Street and Franconia-Springfield stations, including total demolition and reconstruction of at least three of the platforms. Hopefully they will have replacement buses, but this will put paid to any notion of leaving Huntington at 5:00 am and making a 6:00 am flight (currently I can be on the first departure at 0500, reach the DCA station by 0512 and get beyond TSA by 0520.

This construction work doesn't include the proposed Potomac Yards station, located between the airport and Braddock Road; the earliest we might see this is 2021.

Ugh. As long as they don't close it the other side I'll be ok (I similarly leave L'Enfant less than an hour before departure) but better get my pre-flight dinner fixes in Old Town Alexandria out of my system before then.

The work next summer is South of DCA and then other parts of the Metro system are scheduled for work in 2020 and 2021, but they haven't outlined closings yet. The DCA platforms will get work in the fall/winter 2019, but the station won't close.

I hope frequencies are not reduced following this temporary closure. Currently, metro is already hit or miss during off-peak times.

Metro's 0500 departure from Huntington is very punctual; I've never had a problem with it (I used to live in one of the apartment houses across the street from the Eisenhower Avenue station, so I have quite a bit of experience with this line). The problem lately is that if you miss the 0500, the next departure is 0528.

My flight usually arrives either at 12:55 PM or 10:30 PM. By the time I get to the metro station, blue line is either arriving within the next 5 minutes or I have a long wait. At noon it makes the difference because it takes me 15 minutes to get to Foggy Bottom by metro, but half an hour if I take an uber. At 10:30 PM it takes me about the same to get to Rosslyn by metro or uber.
