Interesting....

In the article they claim no technology issues this time, but isn't the crew system software busted/down right now?
The pilots board listed in the wiki clearly indicate it is a tech issue after the initial storms.

Just caught wind of this via this thread. I'm surprised there is no news coverage.

Delta is probably paying off CNN right now. FAA needs to look into this.

I think the news is dominated by political coverage. I'm deeply interested in the political climate of our country. However, there is a lot of news that doesn't see the light of day or garner much interest right now.

There is coverage, including stories critical of Delta's past strategy where a different strategy could have helped ameliorate part of the problem this week such as this one (penned by me).

Did Delta’s Stranded Passengers Wait Longer Than Necessary for Lack of an Interline Agreement with American?
Delta Air Lines suffered what arguably was one of its worst operational meltdowns ever over the past week. Thousands of flights were cancelled, leaving literally hundreds of thousands of travelers in places they didn’t want to be....

What’s this, you say? Why didn’t Delta, the nation’s second largest carrier, just do what airlines do, book some of the passengers on another airline, a practice known as interline booking?

Interline agreements, which govern such bookings, are voluntary contracts airlines enter into to allow passengers traveling on a multiple-flight, multiple-airline itinerary to be booked on one ticket. Such agreements typically also cover irregular operations, or irrops, where an airline transfers a stranded passenger to another airline.

In other words, airlines would help each other out, even while they were competing...

I really am surprised they still aren't mentioning anything but weather.

No delta did not offer any reason for cancellation nor any compensation. I heard the agent said "weather" to the passenger in front of me. We were really exhausted by the time (worked 10-hour day, drove 3 hours to Lax amid LA Friday traffic, waited in line for 2.5 hours), and the line was so long behind us, we did't want to argue/question the agent; we just wanted to finish up so that she can help the next passenger.
I will ask Delta for the compensation. What's the best means? Email? Call to the Plt line after things settle down?
I don't know whether calling or emailing would be more effective. I think I'd let the dust settle and see what people here report to get an idea of what to ask for and how to do it. This place is a great source of information!

If I hadn't seen the posts here about the weather delays I wouldn't have been watching my flight so closely on Friday and would have just thought that I had a delayed flight with no clue about aircraft switch. The silver lining for me (besides actually reaching my destination on my scheduled flight) was that the delays meant that instead of leaving for LAX at 5pm on a Friday afternoon (ugh!) I left at 9pm and probably cut my drive time at least in half. Sorry you had to make a 3 hour drive for nothing.

As soon as they mention something other than weather, compensation has to start.

lol, i always wondered why when i call them during irop, their automatic greeting will emphasis the word "weather" in a weird way, and split that greeting into multiple unnecessary sentences so i get to hear "weather" 3 or 4 times. lol
