No one's ever asked me for a specific amount. Airport agents can't issue compensation anyway... I'm just curious.

I've been in ATL for the last 8h and they are said to be offering 200 Delta Dollars for the delay.
- Inbound Flight Delayed - FAs Delayed - FAs Time Out - GA Times Out - Found 2 FAs from another cancelled flight - New GA is off shift but offered to stay late - Found one more FA! We have a party! Very glad we will get out because there's no flight availability back to the NY area tomorrow. Sorry for those still stuck. |

I've had GAs and Red Coats offer me from 5-15K miles (happened less than 5 times in sum) for various issues. Not sure how they did it, but it was processed at a gate terminal or somewhere in the back after they wrote down my SkyMiles number. Most recent was at the end of 2015.
This sounds highly unusual and unlike DL, if it was purely mechanical, you were in paid J, and you were delayed for 24 hours. Both wrote to Delta and then called a special number a phone rep gave me. Unfortunately for those of us flying out of small midwest airports, this is normal treatment. So for those who were massively delayed, don't expect much. |
DL Flight Delays
Hey guys, new member here, but I looked around and think I'm posting in the right place, plus couldn't find a response to this.
Recently was affected by the Delta power outage. Wife originally purchased a roundtrip flight, going from MSP to SVO with layover in CDG. Coming back today, August 9, the SVO to CDG flight was on time, but CDG to MSP was delayed by 4.5 hours. Affected flight was AF9300/DL170. Here's my question: since this layover was in the EU, is wife entitled to the 600 euro compensation? Or are connecting flights not eligible for this? Really appreciate any guidance. Not sure if I should try getting the 600 euro compensation or just take Delta's $200. |
What was the difference between the scheduled and actual arrival times in MSP
That is what matters not the delayed departure. If the difference is <3 hours then EU261 does not apply. If >3 then the actual delay will determine the amount. |

I just looked online and it appears DL170 (CDG-MSP) will arrive 5-hours late today to MSP, so your wife is indeed eligible. However, don't be surprised if DL tries to fight this and call it an 'Act of God,' which would protect them from having to pay out. It will help if your wife has any kind of status with DL. |

We were on a J DL/KLM award from Newark to JRO via AMS. Flight was 5 hours late leaving EWR (mechanical). No food offered but cart snacks and some pizza after J already boarded. No hotel supplied on arrival to AMS. Paid for own hotel and food for 24 hour delay (1 flight per day AMS to JRO). Nothing proactively offered from Delta. Eventually received $300 check and 25k miles pp.

Which brings me to my other question, should I try to claim that $200 Delta compensation, or would that make me ineligible for EU261? There's actually 2 people traveling on itinerary so it would be a $400 vs $1300 compensation issue (or both, but I think that's me being unrealistically greedy).

It'll be well over 4 hours once they land, since the delayed departure was over 5 hours. Not sure if I could submit the $200 voucher with DL and the 600 euro with AF? Or most likely I have to just pick and go through one of the airlines to claim compensation? DL was operating airline between CDF and AF.
You claim from the operating carrier. If it was DL and you tried to claim via AF (because they code shared or you bought the ticket from them) they would just refer you to DL. DL may very well play hard ball and claim 'extraordinary circumstances' caused the delay (their IT issues yesterday) so you may have a fight on your hands |

2017 - 2018 - 2019 Compensation Thread
Route: CVG-ATL-BTR
Fare: First (RP) Status: PM What Happened: Three hour delay at ATL due to ExpressJet issues. Baggage ended up being loaded on the wrong flight, and it took about three days for them to track it down. Compensation: 7,500 Miles and $75 gift card. Received personalized email after missed call. |
Bag Delay + Ice Storm
Route: MCO-JFK-BUF-ATL-MCO
Fare: Comfort Plus (W) Status: FO/MM What Happened: Rough trip from start to finish. MCO was a nightmare for checking in on Jan 2nd with 4 hour lines for kettles, 1 1/4 hours for sky priority. Bags dropped off at Sky Priority but never loaded onto my flight. Got my bags 6 hours later dropped off at the hotel I was at, however e-mails that were supposed to go out notifying me they found the bags and were on the way were sent at the exact same time the bags were delivered. On the return trip the Ice Storm hit ATL, delaying me by 2 hours on the BUF-ATL, then knocking out my ATL-MCO flight on friday night after it was delayed by 5 hours. Next day on the rebooking we took many rolling delays and changed gates 7 times. Terrible communication about the delays by the gate agents and red coats, and very, very understaffed on Saturday AM, though TBH I wouldn't be surprised if many employees called in, unable to drive to the airport. Compensation: 10,000 miles and a call apologizing for the incident. |
Route: SAV-JFK
Fare: Cheap FCM (I think A?) Status: PM + non status wife. non status son on separate ticket with linked PNR. Took advantage of an $85 FCM offer for my son & I each to upgrade r/t. Wife never got an offer to upgrade. The SAV-JFK route was downgraded from an CR9 to a CR2 less than 24 hours before the flight moving us from 2C/D to 11A and 9C. 3 hours before the flight Delta called and offered to reroute me via ATL so that we could stay in F, which we declined. Flight sucked in the back of a CR2 but i just wanted to get home. Upon landing I saw an email w/ Delta refunding the entire upgrade charge and each of us got 5,000 skymiles. |
JFK CUN
Z fare PM Status IFE system wasn't working for a lot of seats. FA walked around and proactively offered everyone in FC with IFE issues 15k miles. Took our skymiles number and put it in their PDA. Thanks Delta! |
