Delta's Operational move from T5 to T2/3 at LAX:

Delta has moved to: T2 and T3 with eventual connector to TBIT (note: there is currently only airside bus service to stay securely between T2 & T3, the walking connector has not been built yet.)

Where to check bags: As of January 13, 2020, non-Sky Priority customers must check their bag(s) at the terminal their flight departs from, unless their flight departs from TBIT, in which case, they must check their bag at Terminal 2. Sky priority customers can check their bag at either terminal. See this link for more information.

Date(s) of move: May 12, 2017 - May 17, 2017

Here is a helpful chart from Delta which covers all Domestic / Int'l. transfer combos (AND TOTAL TRANSFER TIMES) between T2, T3 & TBIT.

New Bus Routes will help with connections:
- Circular Airfield Bus between TBIT, T2 and T3
- Airfield Bus between T2 and T3

Bus Map

Will there be a SkyClub: Yes, there is one in each terminal. Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse will remain.
- The SkyClub in T2 opened on May 20th (Former AC Maple Leaf Lounge)
pix in post 1058
- The SkyClub in T3 opened on May 24th (Former VX Loft)

https://www.delta.com/content/www/en...d-updates.html

Where Will The Delta One Check In Lounge Be Located:

Delta will temporarily offer dedicated check-in space in Terminal 2 (first door closest to T1) while a long-term Delta One experience is finalized.
In T2, there is a small Delta One seating area with refreshments. An agent will escort you from the check in/lounge area through a back pathway up stairs to TSA precheck. Its a shorter walk to check-in at SkyPriority and easier if you have a carry on and don't want to drag it up a flight of stairs. 11/3/17)

Airlines joining DL in T2/3 for landside and departures:
- AeroMexico (T2)
- Virgin Atlantic (T2)
- WestJet (T3)

Landside T2 only, departures from TBIT:
- Virgin Australia
- Volaris

Landside T3 only, departures from TBIT:
- Avianca/Taca
- Copa (effective April 7)
- InterJet

Will there be secure links between T2-T3 and TBIT: Yes, the final plan is to let pax walk between all airside.

People are going way overdramatic on T3. While it was pretty messy the first few months, it's really not that bad now.
I don't think people are being overdramatic. It must just be different day-to-day. I had been doing a lot of transcons so actually hadn't connected in LAX at all since the shift. This time on my way back through LAX, T3 was truly a mess. Overcrowded SC, tons of people just milling around in the terminal with nowhere to sit. So I took the shuttle over to T2 (much better). On my way back to T3 for my connecting flight, boy oh boy... throngs of people packing the waiting area for the shuttles. No signage, so it was just a mix of mostly T3 and a few B. Passengers shouting at agents. Agents shouting back at passengers. Felt a bit like China tbh. Took 30 minutes to go from T2 back to T3... once back in T3, it was very much a zoo. Not at all a pleasant experience. I'm sure at some point they'll fix this, but it's not at all what I've come to expect from a Delta operation.

T2 is 747 compatible as NW flew out of there for years, as did KLM ( and I think I flew NZ on a 747 out of T2 back in 2000). A380 is another story and I would be surprised if they built any A380 gates in T2. But I have zero inside knowledge -- the skycaps would be more tuned in than I

I see one limit of DL’s “Four Corners” strategy (if Four Corners is still a current strategy) being facility capacity and overcrowding at LAX, NYC (JFK/LGA), SEA, and ATL. These conditions are likely not a surprise to anyone at DL.

Will we begin to see some modest growth/adds where capacity generally is available (DTW, MSP, and to a more limited extent, SLC) anytime soon? More non-hub point to point flying with the coming CS and perhaps 319 fleets? (The latter seeming to be the general FT assumption, if I’m recalling correctly.)

T2 never had the A380. In fact AF began split operation (2/TB) when one of their several daily flights became A380, and they shortly after moved over to T2 with KLM.

I believe DL's growth plans over the next few years are quite modest, but concentrated on SEA, LAX and BOS. Those first two have capacity issues now but major construction projects in process.

Boy, that new SC can't come soon enough. I think T3 is most crowded SkyClub I have ever seen, but there was still space to sit.

I see what you did there... make up a strategy (point to a Delta doc that describes a Four Corners strategy and uses the name, please) and argue it's adequate, as a straw man for growth at MSP and DTW. A350s at DTW - what more evidence could one want that DTW has a future as a DL hub?

Review the Delta Investor Day presentation on the economics of upgauging. If you don't understand why Delta tries to use 757/739s at ATL/LAX/SEA (and MSP and DTW on routes that support them), you don't understand airline hub economics c. 2018.

Correct and LAWA had previously said that they will not consider adding any A380 gates other than at TBIT because the disruptions to air field operations when A380 has to taxi from the runway. So all A380 operators to LAX will be located in TBIT for the foreseeable future.

LAX shower update

Apologies if this has already been posted but I could not find anything. The showers in the T2 club are now open. There are 6 of them. You don’t ask for access at the front desk but go back to the showers and ask a “shower ambassador” (unusual phrasing). Each shower has the three Malin and Goetz wall mounted dispensers. I don’t know if they offer anything else such as a toothbrush, etc. as nothing was offered and didn’t know what to expect so forgot to ask.

While the shower itself is spacious, the shower rooms are very tiny and hard to maneuver if you have a rollaboard. There is nowhere to sit (and the toilet doesn’t have a lid). There is a small metal shelf that comes out from the wall (and didn’t look clean enough to sit in), but most will have a hard time accessing that since that’s really the only place to put your luggage (and that’s directly adjacent to the toilet). There are the usual towels, and there is a blow dryer in a drawer.

I’m glad that they are open, but wish they had a bit more space.

Separately, the club at T3 is still an overcrowded mess. But there are signs and posters everywhere throughout the terminals about new improvements, though the staff said some might take until 2023.

The Delta One check-in lounge hasn’t changed. Very small/seating for 4, no restrooms, etc. At least it’s not far from security. Staff is still very friendly though

I just stopped into the SkyCrowd in T3, did a once around and there we nowhere to sit so I left. On the way out there was a line of 21 people waiting to get in. This terminal move has been a pretty big failure in my opinion. Delta knows the quantity of passengers they're putting through this terminal and it's too high. The terminal is crowded and the AC sucks.

So I've been through T2 several times since the move but yesterday I had my first T3 experience. I gotta say, I really just assumed people were embellishing how bad it is (I mean, this IS flyertalk after all) but wow, it's really bad. It was extremely warm and the two little dinky dyson fans they had set up in the seating area near the windows were not helping.

Daloosh's particular assessment is accurate. Even though there were seats available, it felt incredibly crowded, mostly because they've put too much seating in too small a space.

The only other club I've seen like this is the old EWR club where you literally couldn't get to the seats because there were so many crammed in there that you essentially had to climb over furniture to move around.

I was in the T3 SkyClub on Sunday a week ago and they were rationing entry as the lounge had filled up.
The surprising bit is that when I got in there was a choice of seating and I think I’ve seen it more full on other days. Wonder if that was how it’s supposed to feel but some of the managers prefer to let in over-capacity rather than making people wait or giving them restaurant vouchers.

Capacity has far more to do with the Fire Marshal than whether you are comfortable or have a place to sit. Letting more in than permitted occupancy is probably grounds for termination (as the lounge itself is at risk, subject to closure). I wonder what that number is (it should be posted somewhere) and how frequently the number is exceeded.

I am flying with my family first class to Seattle tomorrow and connecting to Delta One to Beijing. Can I use the Delta One Check-in in LAX? Twitter support says no when I asked, though some bloggers seem to say yes.... I'd rather use it, but only if it's sure to work, since I'll have to lug my family and luggage all the way to T3 if they don't let me. Thanks.
