Delta's Operational move from T5 to T2/3 at LAX:

Delta has moved to: T2 and T3 with eventual connector to TBIT (note: there is currently only airside bus service to stay securely between T2 & T3, the walking connector has not been built yet.)

Where to check bags: As of January 13, 2020, non-Sky Priority customers must check their bag(s) at the terminal their flight departs from, unless their flight departs from TBIT, in which case, they must check their bag at Terminal 2. Sky priority customers can check their bag at either terminal. See this link for more information.

Date(s) of move: May 12, 2017 - May 17, 2017

Here is a helpful chart from Delta which covers all Domestic / Int'l. transfer combos (AND TOTAL TRANSFER TIMES) between T2, T3 & TBIT.

New Bus Routes will help with connections:
- Circular Airfield Bus between TBIT, T2 and T3
- Airfield Bus between T2 and T3

Bus Map

Will there be a SkyClub: Yes, there is one in each terminal. Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse will remain.
- The SkyClub in T2 opened on May 20th (Former AC Maple Leaf Lounge)
pix in post 1058
- The SkyClub in T3 opened on May 24th (Former VX Loft)

https://www.delta.com/content/www/en...d-updates.html

Where Will The Delta One Check In Lounge Be Located:

Delta will temporarily offer dedicated check-in space in Terminal 2 (first door closest to T1) while a long-term Delta One experience is finalized.
In T2, there is a small Delta One seating area with refreshments. An agent will escort you from the check in/lounge area through a back pathway up stairs to TSA precheck. Its a shorter walk to check-in at SkyPriority and easier if you have a carry on and don't want to drag it up a flight of stairs. 11/3/17)

Airlines joining DL in T2/3 for landside and departures:
- AeroMexico (T2)
- Virgin Atlantic (T2)
- WestJet (T3)

Landside T2 only, departures from TBIT:
- Virgin Australia
- Volaris

Landside T3 only, departures from TBIT:
- Avianca/Taca
- Copa (effective April 7)
- InterJet

Will there be secure links between T2-T3 and TBIT: Yes, the final plan is to let pax walk between all airside.

I flew out of T3 last month, and the thought of that experience still makes me shudder.

But the tradeoff is much, much improved airfield ops. Since the terminal swap I no longer sit for 40 minutes after landing waiting for a gate to open up. I can put up with mediocre terminals (and T2 isn't that bad, all things considered) in the mean time. It's not like T5 was a palace.

Not only that but DL way overhyped this move stating improvements would be felt instantly with even more improvements in the years to come. I knew that the instant improvements were a joke as I knew the current state of T2/T3. I was never a T5 fan but this experience is truly auful. As far as everyone saying this will be better when it’s all finished, I’ll believe it when I finally see it.

The post directly above yours describes the immediate improvements

Just read that post now but I haven’t noticed any improvements with taxi times. The very first time I flew into LAX post move (less than a week after), we landed down on the south side with a 10 min taxi up to T3 and still had to sit for 30 mins because another aircraft was occupying our gate and they couldn’t get us another one so we had to wait until it pushed back out to go in.

And the three times I've flown into T3 since the switch, we landed, turned left, and were at the gate within 3 minutes of touchdown.

People are going way overdramatic on T3. While it was pretty messy the first few months, it's really not that bad now.

It wasn't a palace. It was an oasis.

Or waiting for a tug to tow you in (or out for that matter). For that matter, the elevator in T2 is way faster than the elevator in T5 was. I'm fairly happy with the switch.

I have to admit with Clear I use the SkyClub at LAX much less. A quick dash thru security, wander to Starbucks and pick up a coffee and saunter to the gate and they start boarding a few minutes later

When you go back next month, if you can avoid the T3 SC at all, I would. The T3 SC has to be the worst in the system with it always being woefully overcrowded and the food options suck. Use the T2 SC if you can to have a more bearable experience.
The one time I was in T2 and T3 (the same morning), the food was exactly the same in both.

I would just hope and expect that LAX will end up with an SFO-esque type of SC experience when all is done.

The issue is the utter inconsistency between the bars at T2 and T3 (and for that matter the rest of the system). Why does T2 have no bartender/luxury bar, and only the cheap stuff? Why does T3 a bartender and somewhat top-shelf booze for no cost, and yet no glassware? Quite strange for such an important hub to have a lounge setup that's so inconsistent with the DL brand.

I understand they'll be building a huge beautiful SC, but that's years away.

Along these lines, they have built a temporary D1 check-in lounge similar to the T5 version. It's just to get them through a couple of years until a new D1 check-in area is completed. Why not do something similar with the SCs?

The T2 setup is just standard Sky Club offerings for a club without a bar tender. The T3 setup is clearly a customer service gesture and a way to offer something special when the terminal and lounge are not in great shape. I assume the glassware is because they don't have a dishwasher, or don't have enough dishwashing capacity to keep up with the volume ( I think that Virgin American did use real dishes, but perhaps AS took the dishwasher, or what they had was just not big enough for DL's use).

The T2/T3 inconsistency is simply an artifact of the state of the lounge spaces at the time of the terminal swap.

That said, they are working on a new expansion of the T3 club. Judging from the construction walls now in place, the club will at least double in size.

Now that DL/KE JV is online, if they can somehow make the T2 gates A380/B747 capable, would (or should) they bring AF/KL/KE to T2?

Not going to happen. Once the T2-T3-TBIT connector is complete in a couple of years, all gates will be connected airside. I could see them moving their check in facilities over to T2/T3 however when the renovations are complete.
