Delta Comfort+ FAQs
Delta Comfort+ - A New Domestic Branded Fare Product
Summary (effective November 14, 2015, for travel on or after May 16, 2016, in the U.S.50 and Canada):
No selecting C+ seats at time of booking. Eligible pax must request a C+ upgrade by checking the box in the UPGRADE REQUEST section or calling Delta. If upgrade inventory is available, DM and PM may clear after booking. If upgrade inventory is not available, you will remain in your C- seat until such time that DL either releases inventory, or it goes to the airport for gate upgrade.
GM and FO window remains the same at T-72 and T-24 hrs respectively.
Upgrades may automatically place you in any C+ seat, including middle.
F and C+ are separate checkboxes, so you can request an F upgrade without requesting a C+ upgrade. "Double upgrades" from Y to C+ followed by C+ to F are possible.
In your My Delta Preferences page there is a new box where you can choose the default setting for 1st class upgrades and C+ upgrade preferences.
Pax with a companion will be ranked for a C+ upgrade according to the highest level... ie a DM + general member companion in the same PNR will clear after booking..
Maximum of 1 companion may request a C+ upgrade. Per DL FAQ: "If you have three or more passengers in your reservation, all passengers in the reservation must have Medallion status in order for any passengers to be eligible for Delta Comfort+."
Amex Companion Cert flyers are eligible for C+ upgrades.
To "downgrade" to C- seats (exit, other preferred seats) you must call Delta.
Complimentary upgrades to C+, once on board the aircraft, are not allowed regardless of status.
C+ currently not available with corporate discounts, because C+ currently uses ticket designator /WCOM and corporate discounts also use ticket designators. A fare code can only have one ticket designator. This limitation is apparently temporary.
So far Delta is saying this does not impact upgrades to F.

I have two separate flights on May 16, on two separate itineraries. As a PL, I was able to choose C+ seats shortly after booking months ago, by going through the new rigamarole... Today I was notified of upgrades to F on both itineraries, at the upgrade window. So for those who were wondering if a "double upgrade" can happen, yes, it can.

How long before you think DL switches back to have W as an upsell? I booked a TCON 1 month ago and the 1 way price was $238 for V, $338 for W, and $349 for G. Now the price is $256, $295, and $417. With the price as it was when I bought the ticket, I bought F, but with prices as they are now, I would actually buy W. I think that's a fair price given the amenities of W and given I can drink $39 of Woodford. The impact I have seen is that having W as its own class has reduced the price of F and reduced the price of W. I used to never see F tickets below ~$500 each way. You figure they lose 1 row of seating due to C+. At $200 per seat, C+ needs to generate $1200 in add'l revenue for the product to breakeven. If W has 30 seats, they need to sell 12 with a $100 spread and they need to sell 31 W seats with $39 spread, which isn't possible. No doubt they will sell more seats upfront (it worked on me), but there is no way they can make up for the revenue lost from having fewer seats and lower prices for their premium products. Plus the whole debacle has alienated a lot of high value customers. Its pretty clear that DL didn't think things through before embarking on this debacle.

To report on my experiences as a PM...
I booked my first solo post May 16th trip this week. A SFO to JFK flight on May 18th. I booked it through my corporate travel agency (Egencia) and as soon as it was confirmed by my company, I received an email from Delta telling me I was "upgraded" to C+ and given a random seat. Fortunately, an aisle (my preferred location) was available and I took it.
Due to a client meeting changing, today (may 13th) I changed my original booking to a flight right after the original one I booked. After the change occurred, I couldn't choose any seats in C- (sold out) or C+. I went to Delta.com and this time had to manually check the "request to C+" box to actually get the "upgrade". As soon as I did, I was instantly "upgraded to C+" and chose a great aisle seat in C+.
So, it looks like originally any person using a corporate travel service was automatically "upgraded" to C+, which is a disaster if you have a great exit row seat and are pushed to a C+ middle seat. Now, it seems Delta now requires someone to press the "request upgrade to C+" box on Delta.com to get a comfort+ seat... which is great if you only see middle seats in C+ and don't want to give up a good non middle seat in C-.
Has anyone else experienced this same behavior in flights booked recently? Its definitely a positive for corporate travelers if this is the way it goes

I guess it varies by aircraft type but the exit row seats have always looked to me like they have as much legroom as C+ on the flights I've been on.

Unless it's an E+ seat that is a bulkhead where there is a curtain instead of a wall, I've found that Exit row usually have more leg room. I still prefer C+ because you get free drinks and off the plane a lot faster

Me too(minus drinks don't care) but the dedicated bin space is nice too. I carry on quite a lot of camera equipment and need it in a bin and need it very near me.

Some (all?) exit row seats have less padding (one speculation is that it's in case people have to step on them to access the overwing exit door)

I think the best we can realistically hope for is to indicate aisle or window only for the upgrade.

Sorry if this has already been asked. If I book a combination of LH and SH flights, it appears I can purchase C+ at the time of booking for the LH, but not the SH.
Does that mean for the SH flights, I'm stuck in C-, subject to the GM 72hr window?

presumably "LH" means "Long-Haul" and not "Lufthansa" and "SH" means "Short-Haul" and not "Sharp Airlines" (Australia)
