That's what I was thinking. DL has 757s with sleepers? Unless the OP means the recliners used on LAX/SFO from JFK?

DL2SXM what does the seat map look like? Are there 4 rows or more?

Makes sense since it's Saturday-only service - a day where the sleeper-seat 757s aren't needed as much for the (lack of) business travelers and reduced transcon flying, so they can be used on routes that are probably busier on a Saturday, like the Caribbean.

Notably, I recently took advantage of some FCM action: STL-SEA for $692 (L-UP fare) - about 120 more than the coach fare

I would hardly consider the 752 recliner seats as "sleeper seats" but to each his own.

Infuriating FCM

I have a flight later this week from den->atl, and i haven't gotten an automatic upgrade, which normally happens on this route.

So i looked at F on the seating chart and noticed there weren't very many seats available in first, which sucks. I was kind of surprised that there were that many people willing to pay for F, but I guess that's how it goes. I go to check the price and:

I know this is normal, but it's still pretty infuriating. Of course no one is buying economy(unless required) when F is so much cheaper. Hell, I would have bought F for that price.

Anyone else have some truly infuriating FCM experiences?

Yep, medallion benefits aren't what they used to be and with 3 legacies remaining you best get used to it.

And don't buy into the DL Corp "spin" that MQD's will improve the situation. Nope, they're simply raising the price of Medallion status and you'll still see things like this.

Then buy the ....ing seat in first class.

DL is rewarding those whose corporate travel policies allow for the purchase of F and at the last minute.

Seriously

+1
Additionally, the fare rules (flexibility and refundability) may be different for the two fares.

1. Why buy the M when you can buy A and save money? Only reason for that would be some corporate policy having zippo to do with DL.

2. M fare may be flex while A is not. Although a PITA, many people must travel on flex fares and are willing to pay for that privilege.

3. Either by the FC seat (A) or talk with HR.

For all of you shouting "just buy the first class care then!"... It's a little too late when you've already purchased an economy fare and then DL comes in later and cuts the first class fare by well over half the full price. Maybe if DL would waive the change fee for upgrading to a higher fare class this wouldn't be an issue but until then our hands are tied. No one is angry with DL for selling first class fares. It makes us angry when they sell it for less then the economy fare. It's not that hard to understand.

StuckOnSegments Mar 19, 2013 12:42 pm

I bought the A fare. It's just annoying when they do this. What should be an easy upgrade(and i never get upgraded, literally 0/22 on my normal flight) gets f'd by FCM. I know this happens, but when the price discrepancy is so big(F is ~66% of an economy seat), it's a little ridiculous.

The best part is that A fare earns 150% MQM while the M fare earns 100%

But it doesn't earn as many MQD
