[QUOTE=jamesteroh;33241183]DTW/ORD memorial day weekend was only $40 RT to upgrade to First. Someone without status would be nuts to not jump on that.
I love to up-pay at that price and reduce the chances for Diamonds to get a free upgrade. I may not have many friends but Delta loves me

I don't think a diamond really cares if they lose the upgrade on that flight. In fact seat 5B that I had booked originally before doing the buyup has more leg room than my first class seat has.
It's nice buying up on an RJ to a place like NYC or Chicago or DC though for the flexibility of being able to SDC to a co-terminal. The MDW flight I wanted on was a lot more and my chances of SDCing on the MDW flight are pretty good since First Class hardly ever sells out on the RJ's.

I usually think in terms of length of trip - $1 a minute. This is 4+ hours so $240? But it will be on a 757, right and with covid limited amenities. Also whether a daytime or redeye makes a difference to me. I got an offer of $119 for MSY-LAX a few weeks ago - also about 4 hours. And 630 am so it was worth it to me.
Right now I have an offer of $386 for LAX-RDU redeye 6 weeks out. Not worth that but I may use an RUC if it will work.

Took a $117 for RDU - MSP (had been as low as $108 with 4 seats but didn’t get below $117 when down to 3).
A little high for a shorter flight but it’s July 4 weekend and I’m flying with my wife. F was already down to just 3 seats (A319) and Y/C+ was pretty full so WFBF to have two seats together and not share the row.
Actually ticketed into Z so should get an extra 0.25 with the Status Accelerator which is nice plus the usual Z bonus.

SEA-FAI and FAI-SEA on 6/5 $127.93 in both directions. Both flights Z9.
DTW-SEA and SEA-DTW on 6/5 $299.93 in both directions -- Z3 and Z8, respectively.
(It's an award trip -- I don't believe original booking class has anything to do with pricing and it's largely driven by current bucket availability).

Delta did a poor job on their FCM on my LAX-MCO flight. There are 12 empty seats in F. The app said there were 23 seats available on the flight, and it seemed pretty full on boarding, so I assume that included the 12 empty ones in F.

Well, if you are flying on the 14th, inventory is pretty tight on the afternoon flight at J5 C2 D0 I0 Z0. Current bucket inventory tends to be a pretty big factor in the pricing. My DTW-SEA flight on Saturday has remained unchanged at $299.93 even though there are only 2 seats open, but they have kept inventory in Z the whole time (currently J2 C2 D2 I2 Z2).

In the same boat as you I think. SAN to BUF and back, upgrades on the wide body to DTW are running at $600 each. Cost difference at booking for first all the way thru was $600.
