Hmmm, that's interesting. I received an offer that expired 10/31. I hit the min spend requirement. However, all my earnings in Nov still show the Base Promo-Premier Rewards". I did not receive a letter or email about a Nov 1 - Dec 31 promo. I wonder however if I am actively in a new promo (and just don't realize it). Might have to call them to find out.
UPDATE: Called the Rewards center at HSBC and the rep said that the listing of "Base Promo-Premier Rewards" does not mean you are enrolled in a qualifying promotion. She said they recently changed their systems and its simply the new way of showing earnings. Even more disconcerting in my case - is that she said my account was not flagged for any promo (even though I received an email from them stating I was in one). She suggested going into a branch with the email to rectify it. Which is not an option for me as I don't live near a branch - so she struggled with what I should do. She finally suggested an attempt to email HSBC via Bankmail and see what they say. Unbelievably frustrating. Now I've got to chase around HSBC to get the promo miles I earned. GRrrrrrrr! |
HSBC customer service once again leaves a lot to be desired
I contacted both HSBC customer service via both phone and email. Both told me that I was not enrolled in the promo!!
So now I've emailed my branch contact (I'm an HSBC Premier member - so I have a primary point of contact). What kind of operation are these guys running over there?!!? :td: Now I've got to chase them around to make them honor the email/offer they sent. I sure hope this didn't happen to anyone else - but if I were you I'd call to make sure you're file is tagged as included for the promo. Why am I not flagged for inclusion? And what sort of customer service dept are they running? I emailed them to say I was not enrolled in the promo (and to please enroll me) and forwarded the email promo they sent me. Here was their response: Dear xxx xxx: Thank you for contacting HSBC Bank USA, N.A. We regret to inform you that your Premier World MasterCard was not enrolled in the 15,000 Bonus Rewards Program for the period of September 16, 2013 through October 31, 2013. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. Our Premier Service Center is always available, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to meet all of your banking needs. You may contact one of our professionals via our secured 'BankMail' option available while you are logged into your Personal Internet or Mobile Banking services. Sincerely, Customer Relationship Center Premier Banking Specialist Yes, I KNOW that I am not enrolled, that's why I emailed you in the first place!! What I want it to BE enrolled... and I forwarded the email to them asking for this. A 3rd grader would give me a better response than this. |
So-So Card but valuable during Promotional Offers
I have had the HSBC card for a little more than 2 years now. I received a 100,000 point sign up offer for establishing Premier Banking accounts and funding them with sufficient balances. Since then I have received a few promotions and I generally use the card only during promotions as the 1 point per $1 is somewhat lackluster. I received double points in my first six months after the card was opened. Additionally, I recently took advantage of two back-to-back 15,000 point promotions for hitting minimum spend in a period of a month and a half.
HSBC's website interface and phone customer service is ok - not great. The benefits of the card are also hard to use and don't appeal to all unless you are a global executive. I redeemed most of miles on the airline redemptions recently getting 1.67 cents value per mile. The one thing is that you have to book your tickets with HSBC's travel agency on the phone making the process less seamless than that of Ultimate Rewards or Thank You, both of which are really easy to use. In general my view is that the card is just ok but can be valuable during their periodic promotions. At 1.67 cents redemption value with airline tickets, I was earning somewhere between 6 and 10 cents per dollar spent when they offered 15,000 bonus points, which I thought was a pretty good deal. |

I think they have the worst online cc interface of any card I've ever seen - and some of the poorest CS as well. I too took advantage of the offer you did 2 years ago - and as a Premier customer I'm treated worse than most of my standard credit cards. |
[QUOTE=TravelinSperry;21816172]That's not true any longer. They now allow you to book the ticket and apply a $400 credit against it - regardless of where or how you purchased it.
That's good to hear that you don't have to book the ticket with them on the phone. Personally, I would still call them to make sure I was going to actually get the credit - would hate to buy a ticket with my HSBC card and find out it is not going to be credited. |

Speaking of that promo issue, here is the latest - after contacting both phone CS, email CS and my Premier branch contact, I received this email today. Amazing how ALL departments "erred" and now I'm properly enrolled. "Dear XXXX XXXXX: Thank you for contacting HSBC Bank USA, N.A. We apologize for the incorrect information provided in our previous response. We confirm that your Premier World MasterCard was automatically enrolled in our Spend Campaign. The campaign period is from September 16, 2013 through October 31, 2013. In order to qualify for the 15,000 bonus reward points, you should have made new retail purchases totaling to $5,000.00 using your card during the campaign period. If you have made the purchases for the above mentioned amount, the bonus reward points will be credited to your credit card within four to six weeks after the campaign end date (October 31, 2013). If further assistance is required, please reply to this BankMail or contact us at 1-888-662-4722. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause." Well, at least I'm enrolled - and have now earned a $400 credit to use on any airline I choose. Sweated it out there at the end, but at least I should expect the points to hit in the next month :) |
Just found some nice benefits for the Premier card... you can get 7% off participating hotels booked at Agoda.com (which I find to be one of the better priced online travel agencies in Asia). Some other discounts apply to Novotel, Swissotel, Banyan Tree and others. See all the travel deals here:

I've had my HSBC card (HSBC Premier World MasterCard) for about 5-6 months now. CL is $6000.
How do I get a credit limit increase ? Do I need to request it? How about the "No pre-set spending limit" ? |
So I just received this email on Dec 2:
Your opportunity to earn 15,000 Bonus Rewards Program Points with your HSBC Premier World MasterCard® will end with the new year. Dear xxxxx xxxxxxx, In a recent letter, we announced that you could earn 15,000 Bonus Rewards Program Points by spending $5,000 or more from November 4 through December 31.* With just a few weeks left, we want to remind you that the 15,000 Bonus Rewards Program Points are in addition to the Points already earned on those purchases. Plus, there's no limit on the number of Points you can earn. You can view all of the Rewards available to you when you log on to your HSBC Personal Internet Banking account and click on "My Rewards". In addition to the Bonus Rewards Program Points, your card also provides special benefits for Premier clients, including no foreign transaction fees, competitive rates, worldwide access, and personal concierge services. So it's the perfect travel companion this holiday season. If you have questions about this offer, please contact one of our Premier Customer Service Representatives at 888.662.4722. If you are calling from outside the U.S. or Canada, please call us collect at 716.841.6866. Happy Holidays! HSBC Customer Experience Team" |
I didn't even get that email. Le sigh.

I want to transfer points from my US Premier Card to BA how do I do this? I've tried calling them and they keep telling me I need to book my ticket through HSBC. Really disappointed they can't answer a simple question.
Cheers Howie |

Just an fyi - my 15,000 bonus points posted on 12/13/2013. Took 6 weeks to post from the end of the promo (ended Oct 31). Posts as "Fall 2013 Promo Bonus Rewards Points".
There is also a Winter 2013 Promo happening (although I won't hit the spend level since HSBC neglected to send the initial letter telling me about it). Hoping they continue these promos! |
