This thread is a continuation of the discussion posted here from 12.08.2012 - 5.13.2014: Barclays Arrival/Arrival Cards (1.05%/2.1% travel credits)

Current offer for Arrival Plus is 70K pts w/$5K spend & AF waived 1st year.

Barclays says that you earn miles but youre actually earning cash back with the card since you cant transfer your Barclays miles to airlines. But you can redeem them for statement credits at 0.5 cents per mile (poor value) or 1.05 cent per mile if you redeem for travel.

You get 5% of your miles back if you redeem for travel, so 40,000 miles gets you $400 towards travel and 2,000 miles back (5% of your miles back). You must have at least 10K 'miles' in your acct if you wish to redeem as a travel credit. 2500 'miles' can be redeemed for a stmt credit though.

If you want, you can redeem miles to cover a portion of a travel charge instead of the full amount. For example, if you have 80k miles and a $740 airline charge, you can choose to redeem just 70k to cover $700 of the charge.

You earn 2X miles on all purchases, so youre effectively getting 2% cash back for each purchase. But since you get 5% of your miles back when you redeem for travel, this is effectively a 2.1% cash back card when miles are redeemed for travel.

This makes the Barclaycard Arrival PlusTM World Elite MasterCard (with 2.1% cash back for travel) better than the Capital One Venture card which offers only 2 miles per $1 or 2% cash back, only if you spend $30k+ per year after first year, because Arrival Plus AF is $30 more than Venture.

If you receive a call from 302-255-8000 after applying for this or any other Barclay's card, it is a legit number! You can also call them back directly at 866-951-1437.

Barclay

Thanks again, some additional questions please:

1) When you mention "Barclaycard Arrival Plus World Elite upgrades workflow: if a fee cardholder calls in about upgrading to World Elite MasterCard status, please follow the upgrade steps" but it doesn't specify anything else.

Do you mean we should be calling back in and once again requesting World Elite, even if we have already and they are saying no and just sending regular card ?

2) Which is the best channel for us to continue to share feedback, CSR via phone, SM or twitter callback ?

Thanks again

Will Barclays reallocate credit lines among a customer's various Barclays CCs?

I'm still in the camp that while the World Elite version looks cool, I'm content with the World card and I'm one of those that would likely never use the added benefits of World Elite anyway.

The additional travel categories Barclaycard has added, as well as expanding the redemption period from 90 to 120 days and the addition of chip and pin is more than what anyone I think ever expected them to do before.

This card more than makes up for all the uncategorized spending I could do with my Chase cards so there is no way I would drop it. I'm looking forward to the World card that I have coming in the mail - whenever I get it.

You are missing the point. Has nothing to do with colors or looks. It's the point of getting treated equally. We are not in a third world country. I won't even use the elite services. But if new applicants are getting it, existing fee card members should also get it. It's like having a Gold amex, let's sayt amex gets rid of it and only offers preferred amex gold with same fee as regular gold to new applicants. I would want to get upgraded to preferred amex gold without any extra fees too

over payment and cahrging multiples of CL Barclays Arrival...

I have been searching for over an hour on FT and google and have found only 2 posts regarding overpaying a Barclays card- 2 isn't a very good sample size...

New 1st Barclays card but only $3,800 CL. Could anyone who is overpaying and using multiple of their CL please post experience- ie: no problem, contact from Barclays or adverse action? PM's fine, of course.

IMO, conventional wisdom on these forums regarding such activity is often speculation vs actual experience. For example, people say to be very careful overpaying Amex. People also say that even if you overpay, you still can't do a single charge greater than your CL. Both of these are WILDLY incorrect.

I have prepaid/overpaid an Amex card by 32x the CL, and i have charged 24x the CL in one charge- went thru without even a fraud alert! The account has been at a credit balance probably 90% of the time for 2 years and usually between 4-7x CL. Worth noting, this was ramped up over a period of a year. starting with ~2-3x CL and bumping that up- albeit at a fast rate obviously.

I detail the Amex experience to head off conventional 'wisdom' in favour of ACTUAL experiences such as mine with Amex. I'm trying to determine what is doable with Barclays. I've read they like you to use the hell out of their cards, but don't know if several overpayments per month will fly without AA. Ideally, the goal is to do at least $6-10k ??? per month to start, and ramp from there- with some purchases well above CL.

Sorry for the long post.

Just a data point (really don't care about World or World Elite).

Received a letter in the mail from Barclay today saying I was upgraded and can expect my new World Elite card in the next few weeks. Pretty much the same thing the pop up said when I logged into my account. Spouse has the card and so far has not received the letter. This is consistent with spouse not receiving the pop-up online either.

Interesting experience with the Amex charges... that'll help in the future. IME I've over paid by 3x CL with no AA. Charged 5x CL in a month with no AA. Doesn't seem to be an issue.

@Mihiker, thanks for the info. Any additional data you can add (only if you feel comfortable of course) such as score, credit line, heavy/light spend etc ?

Thanks

I also got the "upgraded to World Elite" letter today. Which is odd since when I go online it shows the regular World level card with a link to the World level T&C's. I'm now officially waiting until I get the new card to speculate further on this. For the record the World Elite has a couple of benefits I could use but don't really need.

Data: CL $12.5k; recent scores 760-780 ish; spend $50k in 10+ months. No other active Barclays cards.

Here's my info.

Opened Arrival Nov of 2013. This is my 4th card from Barclays. $12.xk credit limit on Arrival. $17.xk total on my 3 other Barclay cards.

Spend around $5k/month on my Arrival card. This is now main card for non category spend (and when not meeting min spending requirements).

FICO around 825 according to Barclay. Credit Sesame and Credit Karma list scores closer to 750.

Spouse has $5k or $7.5k credit limit on Arrival (can't remember which) and also 3 other cards from Barclays with limits similar to mine. This Arrival card is not used often.

Hope this helps.

I overpaid my Barclays card last month. It was due to the fact that an automatic payment was set up and I had already paid it to $0. It was only about $20 under though, so I'm not sure if this is helpful at all. But they obviously didn't hate it very much because they gave me a new card after this had happened.

So I emailed cs for the heck of it about upgrading to Elite. This is what I got LOL "Thank you for contacting us regarding your Barclaycard Arrival Plus World MasterCard. We are still on the process of reviewing accounts for a possible upgrade to a World Elite status once they pass the criterions from the bank. At this time, your account is not yet eligible to be upgraded. If an upgrade becomes available, we will notify you directly. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

If you have any other questions and concerns, please reply to this message.

Sincerely,

Customer Service
