Just received a certified letter from ST that after reviewing my accounts they would like to close it. I am surprised. I survived shutdown waves last summer, and usually spend ~$20K/month, but after devaluation, I did only $5K first month and $12-17K other months. I only deposited couple of MOs during all my days with ST, I have their Signature account ($25K balance to avoid fees) and when I was approaching that limit, I deposited checks from my other bank accounts or wife wrote her checks to me, or I did ACH. I did all my spend in WMT.
I noticed in the letter that they suggest to close an account by specific date, otherwise, they would close it. I wonder, if I close account myself, can I open another one in the future?

Wow. That is indeed strange. And worrisome. May I ask how long you've had the account? I've deposited a total of $3k in MO in 20 years (and did so about 2 months ago). ST is my main bank. I do use the debit to pay mortgage and cc via bill pay at WM but not much any more. Maybe a total of 4-5k per month.

jk2, are you in a ST state?
This card/account has been in my thoughts since I'm going to close my account before the next annual fee comes up and was wondering how hard to hit it between now and then.

Probably, they finally got their eyes on my account. Of course, my primary spend was in WMT, but comparing to others, it wasn't such excessive.
It might sound stupid, but I wonder, did they blacklist me or not?
Another thing - I only loaded my Serve card two times this month. Since the cutoff date is 4th, the rest of miles wouldn't post this cycle. IF I close my account soon, will I get unposted miles next month or they forfeit them?
Also, I'm thinking how to get my $25K balance easily and without hitting any fees. If I go to bank to close my account, would they be able to give me a check for that amount?

The thing that bugs me about this is why does ST persist with the Delta debit card if they shut down accounts b/c of it (assuming this is why they are shutting you down). If they impose a limit of 2k or 4k points, as they do now, then why shut down? Makes no sense. If they still aren't happy with those limits, then just get rid of the thing, or impose lower limits and most folks will close their accounts, if they haven't already. I just don't get it.

My Dec posted on the 8th, even though Dec 7th was a business day. May be another day. I'll be interested to see what happens. How much they are limiting. Since all the joy has left this card, I don't think about using it much and so don't even always hit the 2k limit. On the up side, I did get what I wanted out of it, which was a summer trip for 6 to the UK this July. So I'm happy.

Just got the following email. Balls.
Please accept our apology! We recently identified an error where the earning cap for your Delta SkyMiles® World Debit Card was incorrectly set. As a result, you earned more miles for transactions made between Aug. 5 and Dec. 4 than the program limits should have allowed. Please note that your SkyMiles® balance will not be adjusted. The error has now been corrected and you will earn SkyMiles® as we previously communicated. For more information about how SkyMiles® are earned, please visit www.suntrust.com/skymiles.

Kind of funny because until Dec I didn't do any extra spend and, if the email is accurate, the extra I did in December will not show up. Best wishes to all of you not getting capped but I have a feeling they fixed the issue for everyone.
