Targeted Offers

Just curious .. Am I the only one that never receives targeted offers? I am not sure why, but someone mentioned in another thread that a high credit score works against you receiving good offers (in theory you make payments on time and have a minimal balance).

1. Do you have an "exclude from pre-approved marketing offers" box checked on your credit reports?
2. Do you have "allow sharing contact information with marketing affiliates" boxes in all your frequent flyer and bank account checked?

You will unlikely get any targeted offers if credit card issues just don't have your information to target you.

As far as your high credit score goes ... could be a blessing and a curse at the same time - on one side banks will be missing interest income, on the other side they could get a high spender (from which they will continuously get interchange fees for every $ spend) and next to zero chances of any collection problems (which is a big problem for bank nowdays).

In regards to #1 and #2, I will have to check, but I bet that I have opted out. Might need to change it with some of the deals that have been offered this year!

Thank you!

I'm with you, wondering why I'm rarely targeted. Good credit, pay balances on time. I'm opted in for all marketing emails I'm aware of through my credit cards, banks, etc., and I even asked Amex once how I can help ripen my "target" potential, and rep said she wasn't sure because at some point it's really a demographics issue and out of customers' control. She got a laugh out of the question though. No laughing matter to me.

Also, if you freeze a credit report you will be opted out of prescreened offers. You might still get offers that are invitations to apply but did not involve peeking at your credit.

No longer getting credit card offers in the mail?

Hello, in late August I applied for (and got) 3 new credit cards (2 Citi, 1 Chase). I've hit the spending limits on the cards, and am now looking for a new card.

However, it appears many of the best offers are targeted, and even though I'e been on the lookout I haven't gotten a new offer in a long time. It seems I used to get a new offer every couple of days. Is there a reason I may no longer be getting offers (such as too many recent applications, or I accidentally somehow opted out), or is it just bad luck?

Only on FlyerTalk would someone post a thread asking why they don't get more junk mail.

That is a red flag for cc applicants, especially at a time of credit crunch.

LoL true....being on the banks e-mail list usually gets you the crappy lowball offers...you have to get on the partners e-mail list, either from allowing the bank to share your info or joining multiple programs in the hopes of getting targeted...3 months after I joined priority club (getting comp platinum status), I was targeted for the 80k credit card offer. I got some free cruises (taxes only) over new years eve, in a balcony cabin, with a free drink pass, because Harrahs put me on the list with NCL.....after joining Carnival cruises casino players club, they partnered with the palazzo in vegas and gave us 5 free nights and $300 freeplay, dinners and drinks.....mind you we don't gamble much ($300-$500 a trip) but the promotion was not based on play, but first come- first served!! Just being on the player list was good enough!!
If you want offers, sign up for every loyalty program you can, and opt in to e-mail lists and information sharing among partners. Be sure to check for sign up bonuses for joining the program as well.

I think the OP meant that they hit the spending requirement required to receive the initial bonus points/miles/etc.

Yes, sorry I wasn't more clear.

I wonder if what happened is while I was updating information with delta and spg that I selected for them not to share data and hence what they had been sharing got cut off (delta and spg being the two places I have status).

In my experience the worst offers come via postal mail. If you mean email, then I can only remember receiving one good offer via email.
The best offers, in my experience, are those that are posted on FT, MP and various frequent flier blogs.
Have you really looked thru the thread below and still feel there are no good offers available?

Are you certain that previous offers weren't returned? As in, have you recently moved? I know that for awhile after I had changed addresses, offers completely stopped. It took a good four to six months before they started to reappear.

I was talking about posted mail--in my experience there are a lot of bad offers that show up, but the very best are often the "targeted" offers that show up in the post.

JQ: I haven't moved recently.

FYI my wife went back to school and quit her job. I have a good job, and near perfect credit and receive no CC offers. She has been unemployed for 18 mos and receives about 5 ("preapproved") CC offers a week, prob because of applying for school loans. None are as good as the ones I find on here, so I don't really care. 99% are citi or chase.
You figure it out.
