After two flights from China landed today with more than 50% of their passengers sick, Italia re-imposes mandatory testing for all passengers coming from China.

Thank goodness some people have something to be permanently miserable about.

- Nice: There are big stickers on the Trams and buses that say Masks Recommended. Not many people are wearing them though.
- Monaco: Absolutely no one seems to care. If I saw one mask I didn't notice.

It's great feeling like normal over here. This is my first time since 2019 where I've been in Europe and it feels like Europe.
In all these places masking is not required, so people are free to do what they want.

Just got off a DB train that came from Germany where I got on in Basel. Was really interesting to see how many Germans stayed masked. I don’t think I saw a single person with a mask getting on in Switzerland. Signs everywhere on the train saying masks still required since it’s DB but obviously ignored by everyone that didn’t come from Germany. I particularly enjoyed one dude drinking wine the entire train ride pull his mask down every other minute to take a sip of wine.

No masks required on all trains in Switzerland (including DB ones), so again it is peoples personal choice to wear one or not.

While masks were a big part of the english language covid politics, in other languages they were not such a big deal.

Back in June, I was on the train from Berlin to Prague. Everyone took their masks off the second we crossed the border.

Thats more of what I expected. But nearly everyone I saw that was already on the train when it arrived still had a mask. Whatever floats their boat I guess. Was definitely an outlier from what I’ve seen the past 6 months or so.

Spain is the second EU country to announce Covid testing on visitors from China, following similar decisions in Italy, plus the US and India. Arrivals can skip the tests if they are fully vaccinated - and Spain does accept some Chinese vaccines. (BBC)

France will require travellers from China to provide a negative COVID-19 test result less than 48 hours before departure, the health and transport ministries said on Friday. (Reuters)

The UK is set to announce that passengers coming from China will have to provide a negative Covid test before they travel to Britain. (BBC)

This is from the BBC report:
But not all countries have announced additional controls. Germany has joined Australia and Portugal in saying there will be no new rules yet.

Norwegian health authorities said the same. Their quote was why be afraid of raindrops when we are swimming in Covid? A couple of hundred tourists will not make a difference when literally hundreds of thousands are getting infected each week in Norway.

Me and my friend wanna go enjoy some sun in February but southern Europe seems particularly affected by "forgotten" mask mandates. As far as my research goes, it seems that only Portugal and Malta are mask-free. Is this correct? I'm in Portugal right now so I'd like the next trip to be somewhere else just for the sake of variety

(NB: I'm looking for places where mask mandates don't exist. I'm aware that they are mostly ignored in places like Greece but we're looking for a place where we don't have to worry about someone being too proactive - i.e. we're only interested in places with no mask mandates at all)

France, Italy and Croatia would be obvious choices. But if you avoid public transport, all of Europe is mask free currently.

Thanks. I thought Italy still has masks on public transport?

I'd rather not spend my holiday driving so I'm looking for a place that is maskfree even on public transport

Masks haven't been required on public transport in Italy since September.
