I just change my DL flight to depart DCA tomorrow, overnight in MSP, and take my original flight to HNL on Friday. Any hotel recommendations for MSP?
If you don't mind a ride on the light rail, the Westin and W are both nice properties. |

Heck, if I were you, I would see if CO would allow me to miss the inbound segment (assuming it cancels), and keep your return on Sunday... then find some way, any way, down to D.C. I think there are going to be some absolutely ridiculous VDB opportunities out of DCA in the coming days. You could probably spend all day Sunday and Monday taking successive bumps. :D

I had orthotics when it really started becoming an issue when I was 14 or 15, but I would wear them out after six months and they would no longer be useful. My left foot is as flat as a board and there are about 37 different surgeries that could be tried, but with that many possibilities there is a very high likelihood that it surgery would make it worse than it is right now. This is why it is tough for me to walk long distances or stay standing for long periods of time (like at CO Do IV). The crappy thing is that if they had caught this when they should've before I was six months old, they could've repaired it and I would've been find. Strange to think what my life might have been like. Oh well, everything happens for a reason. :) |

Well, perhaps not all of the city, but I imagine they will rush to get the airports open once it stops snowing. I think the Sunday evening flight should be fine. The airport will likely be a total zoo on reopening, but we have confirmed seats. I'm also thinking of insane VDB opportunities. :-:
This all assumes that the storm ends up dumping a foot or more of snow. If it snows less than that, the situation will not be nearly as bad as that described above. |

If you guys end up making it to DC, be prepared for complete dysfunction. From late Friday into Saturday, the only means of transportation may be walking. The above-ground portion of the Metro does not function during blizzard-level snow, and during the last blizzard, DCA was without Metro service for 36 hours. Cabs will be few and far between, and eventually there will be no cars at all out on the streets, including cabs. I talked to someone during the last blizzard who tried to get from Dupont to DCA by cab after the Metro shut down, and the only cab she saw refused to take her out there for less than $200 (should normally be $20). If you do make it into the city from DCA without walking, be prepared to be confined to the hotel and the surrounding blocks with no means of transportation until after the snow stops on Saturday. The Metro likely will remain open within the city, serving underground stations only, but operating at infrequent intervals.

I am so disliking the Ford Motor Company at the moment ...

The W is pretty good, even in a regular room, and is pretty cheap for weekend rates (though it may be pretty pricey for a Thursday night stay). The Westin is also very nice, but I was judging based on suites (which I received both times). Both are convenient to light rail.
Good to know about the Brickskellar and Palomar. I think I know where I'm headed if I can make it up there. I arrive MSP at 10:00 pm and have to be back at the airport between 9:30-10:00. Is it worth it to go all the way downtown for one of those properties? |
