Any Drobo model has the option of connectivity. That's why they sell the DroboShare as a separate component.

The price is directly tied to its ease of use, and there is a huge market for people willing to pay for convenience. Many pro photographers have moved their entire work libraries onto multiple Drobos, and they sync the Drobos against a master catalog by using an Aperture vault.

The only downside to the droboshare, is another thing to plug in, it has a separate power supply.

Question for the IT geeks in The Box...

I'm looking to upgrading my wireless router. I need something with 802.11n (either dual or single band is fine), Gigabit Ethernet, a USB port (with external HD support) and high wireless throughput. Support for dd-wrt is also a big plus. So far, I'm considering the Linksys WRT610N and the Netgear WNDR3700. Thoughts on either of these models or suggestions for something else?

I'm not an IT geek but I still love my D-Link DIR-655. It's got all the features you mentioned and it doesn't overheat like I've heard the Linksys does. I don't know anything about the Netgear one you mentioned.

I just heard that same thing about Carlin in an interview with Janeane Garofalo. She had a chance to go to one of Carlin's HBO rehearsals and she watched him do the hour of material several times, right down to looking at the same seat (not area of seats, the same seat) in the crowd at the exact same time to keep the pace, rhythm and timing of the entire set intact.

So, any plans for summer?

I have a trip to LAS and want to abuse BD for one amazing trip. Haven't decided whether or not I'm going to teach this summer.

I think that we will go to FLL during July 4th as has been our tradition the past several years, but instead of an extended weekend we'll probably stay a whole week this time. :-:

I'd rather have one extra power-drawing product than the tangle of stuff you described.

Mornin Box
(Yup, it is still morning on the left coast, and I overslept too...)
How's everyone feeling today?

Hopefully I won't have time to do anything. If I get admitted to this program, it's a 12-credit summer and a 14-credit fall.

Where did you hear this? I have noticed any problems with it, though I moved from a 11g to the Airport. I've been able to stream Netflix HD fine. :-:

It came across in a few reviews. It's definitely not a bad router (especially considering how easy Apple has made the set up) but it seems to top out around the average throughput for N routers. I have no problem with Netflix HD streaming on my G router so the Airport Extreme should definitely have no problems.

That's a lot less work than teaching 15 hours ;)

Very cool....I don't remember where I heard about his methodology but I'll always remember George's acceptance of a lifetime achievement award....he essentially talked about how useless it was and said he was going to put it up on Ebay as soon as he got home.

He truly was one of the best! :D

I'll worry about that level of workload a few years down the road if I get my way. This Master's is a springboard to a school district job and a content-area Master's, after which I'll start looking to adjunct. My mentor would tell me to say that a terminal degree is the next step, but I'm not sold on that yet.

IIRC, they also introduced a model with network connectivity built in. But, you're right, the DroboShare can be added to any model.

Actually, the DIR-655 is another model I had looked at. It's a little on the ugly side (not that that really matters) but it gets good reviews.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions - I'll stop the IT discussion here. :) We don't have anything planned for the summer yet...

It is a major refurb base there in SAT. I saw a 747 and a few UPS birds there before. Always a different bunchof birds over there by the CO Gates!
