Any reason for setting teh UK, and not Germany as your second home-country on FM? It looks like you have a number of domestic German flugs.

Thanks,

Mackieman The Ignorant (about New York)

Don't stay by the airports, no matter how cheap. :)

There's a Courtyard on 40th, just off the main drag in Times Square that i've stayed at a few times. Definitely nice. Of course, if you can, the Marriott Marquis is nice as well. :D

Anyone know if there is real food in the AF Biz lounge at JFK? Buddy is on the 2335 departure and was asking. All I've seen is "snacks" mentioned but I don't know if it is more than that.

Thanks all. The flexibility component is not known at this point.

I only half-jokingly says that Pisces need not apply after having a mother who is one and then ending up with a mate with strikingly similar traits.

Indeed. I can see my life without my girl, but I choose not to go back to that experience.

Also, if you harbor any serious doubts whether she accepts you for you (i.e., she doesn't view you as some sort of project that can be molded, or "improved"), I'd take a good, long think about that before entering into a binding legal agreement that's not exactly simple to undo.

I already backed off of setting a wedding date once because she was being very  for the few weeks prior to her trying to set the date. My hesitation paid off.

This seems like an appropriate enough round-number post.

Avoid the Sheratons on 50th Street, for sure. You're a Marriott guy, right? The Marriott Marquis isn't bad, though it can be pricey.

Not sure but I met the person in charge of AF North America opperations who also was an intrigate part of starting SkyTeam this weekend on IAH-LGA. He was astonished I knew so much about different airlines, I told him he should meet some of my buddies that would make me look retarded. Got his business card as he asked if I would be interested in sitting on a pannel to discuss their frequent flyer program and promotions. Time to learn about AF.

teh Canuck feels much stronger about the institution of marriage than I do (she comes from a "normal" family, I don't) so up until the point I did it, I almost felt like it was a concession I was making for her. I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her, I just wasn't so sure on the whole marriage thing. And then I popped the question, saw the overwhelming joy it brought to her and my heart swelled, not for her, but with her.

I should clarify that before I proposed I had to reconcile with myself that I was doing it for us, not just her. Never do it just for her. Or just for you. Do it for both of you.

It's kind of like jumping out of a plane. Until the chute opens and you're safely on the ground you question the sanity of the decision. Things were going so well, why risk mucking it all up.

And then you do it, and it changes you. For the better.

I have not yet found teh ONE, for me, but I have an issue with marriage as it stands today. And I come from a very normal family, in fact most would be surprised of my background. That being said, I find the institution of marriage to be a corrupt farce and do not wish to participate.

The state of Tx is now requiring people to take courses, all kinds of stuff just to get a license, bogus . I think forcing this is the wrong step, and I think marrying every person that says they want to get married and can mutter the words 'I DO' without thinking about it for 5 seconds is wrong, but that doesn't mean I think it should be legislated morality and thinking upon all. Govt gets in the way, and sticks their big nose in the bedroom more and more. If people want to get married fine, if they don't and want to sign some documents giving control over decisions in case of inability to decide on their own, it should be doable and legally binding, regardless of 'sexual preference or orientation' then we'd not even be where we are with this same sex marriage wedge hoopla bogus junk that both parties have to trump up to 'motivate' their bases to vote for their practitioners of evil and greed.
Ok now, off rant I guess.

ETA - My advice on anything related to marriage should be taken with a pillar of salt.

Understood, but I ask because I'd like to hear the opinions of those who have previously made the decision.

Well, I feel like that, but I am having difficulties saying "I do," knowing that, when we do so, we get whacked due to the way the tax code is written. So financially it probably makes more sense to stay single and live as two separate entities, but that is hard to explain to her and to others.

I'm probably at that point.

Sure, the tax implications suck, but it is a small price to pay, IMO.

My wife didn't take my name and I'm quite certain that I couldn't find a copy of the wedding cert from the city if I tried. Those things are not important to either of us in the grand scheme of things. Neither was the financial hit. Being committed to each other in that way makes up for those trivial details.

Thank you, good Wizard. The CY and Marquis properties are in the same price range, with the cheapest being the Ren on AAA rate.

I did that ages ago and never went back to change it.

I didn't realize we had FM audits going on for validity.
