Apologies for boring Teh Box, but I'm not turning down good free advice.
In the fall of 1996 at a high school in New Jersey, more than one thousand students sat in classrooms listening to various teachers expound on the customary array of high school subjects. Only one out of those one thousand students, however, looked up at his US History I teacher and thought to himself, “That is what I want to do”. My name is Copa, and that moment is in part why I am seeking admission to the Master of Science in Teaching program in the K-12 Social Studies track and writing this essay. Now, nearly fourteen years later after a few bumps in the road, a nontraditional path to a baccalaureate degree, and six-plus years of service to my country, I have come to realize that my role in life is to act on that original inspiration and become the best teacher of Social Studies that I can possibly be. Admission to  University makes that goal achievable. |

Do LH miles melt in your mouth and not in your hand?

WWTBD?
I just read this post on non-refundable tickets: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/9674698-post51.html and still am a bit  as to what to do.
Here are the details: I bought my sister a non-refundable ticket to LAS and she wasn't able to make it due to some medical . I spoke to the elite line and they said they would waive the $150 change fee and she would be able to rebook travel with the full ticket value. The two issues are that 1) the ticket is non-transferable and 2) she doesn't travel often What's my best course of action here? Thanks in advance! |

1. Change "in part" to "one reason"; and 2. Delete the phase "and writing this essay." To me, it seems out of place and overly wordy. Furthermore, it is surplusage, given that you are writing the essay presumably because you are seeking admission to the program. If you don't do the first change, at least put commas before the word "in" and after the word "part."

Also, consider changing "the best teacher of Social Studies that . . " to "the best Social Studies teacher that . . ." Likewise, consider changing "I have come to realize that . . ." to "I have realized that . . ."
