So, aside from SQ, which airlines should I consider on a US-Europe-Asia trek?

You can do a mix.

Something like EWR-FRA(LH)-FRA-BKK(TG)-BKK-SIN(SQ).

There are lots of fun options, but i would consider LH and LX on the transatlantic legs.

Sounds good...I might try to do one of the TATL legs on a CO 777 depending on how much progress is made on lie-flats.

Though mixing it up does sound like a good idea.

I remember reading somewhere that NZ flights are nearly impossible with UA miles...hopefully CO miles prove easier to use in that case for you.

Correct, UA will not allow you to redeem for the LAX-LHR flight since they fly the same route.

But CO/BD miles should be a valid option. Though i'd be torn between VS or NZ on LAX-LHR personally.

+1 on that. Might as well collect the article.

Wizard, if you are doing runs out of PHL, do let me know. Even if I can't go flying, I will at the very least meet you for drinks or some such. :-:

Absolutely. My current challenge is finding dates. I am kind of booked up through April at this point.

Thank you.

Now, if only I could get back there during the afternoon. Sadly my next trip to LON is on DL burning some miles.

At least I get ATL-LGW before they drop it.

CN is normally a solid publication that I do pick up from time to time...looking forward to reading it.

That is a tough decision...aren't both though similar styles of seats? For me, I'd go NZ just because I could probably grab a flight on VS easier than one on NZ.

Is that kind of protectionism a UA thing or a Star thing?

Most likely a UA protectionism thing...stuff coming from the airline that does Starnet blocking wouldn't surprise me.

If you fly LHR-LAX on NZ, how will you get your haircut??

UA. Same logic that UA won't let you route to Australia/NZ through Asia.
