This outburst was both frightening and hilarious as well. To say the man has a few screws loose may be an understatement...

What is this about Mike Leach locking players in closets?

"Mike Leach is alleged to have isolated a player in a dark closet for not practicing with a concussion."

Suspended and very likely terminated is what it is.

I say that it is a complete overreaction on Tech's part.

More reading here. A few quotes:

“Mr. and Mrs. James took the step with great regret and after consideration and prayer to convey to the Texas Tech administration that their son had been subjected to actions and treatment not consistent with common sense rules for safety and health,” the statement said. “The James family believes this is a matter important to protect all the fine young men involved in Tech football and the university’s reputation for developing and educating young men and women.”
Then the family should have waited until after the bowl game. Unless they wanted to "get" Leach (which is my view on the matter...particularly since Leach may get an $800K bonus if he is the team's coach on December 31).

Leach was not available for comment, but Lubbock attorney Ted Liggett, who said he has represented the coach for 10 years, denied the allegations.

“Mike’s position is that he has done nothing wrong,” the attorney said. “He loves Lubbock. He loves coaching Texas Tech. He wants to finish his career at Texas Tech.”

The attorney also said he “vehemently disagrees” with the accounts of the incidents given by the James family. He said that after consultation with doctors and trainers, Leach instructed that Adam James should be taken to a building with ice, low light and a trainer outside the building to monitor him.

Liggett also said James was sent to the press box at Jones AT&T Stadium when the team practiced at the stadium.

“It wasn’t a closet,” Liggett said.
Sounds more reasonable to me.

The action taken by Mike Leach did nothing to worsen his condition, and there was no damage done by what Mike Leach did. None,” Liggett added.

In addition, Liggett said Craig James “attempted to use his influence to get his son playing time when he can’t earn it himself.” Adam James had 17 catches this season for 154 yards and a touchdown.

A series of e-mails and statements obtained by the Chronicle included praise for Leach and criticism of Adam James’ talent, attitude and work ethic, including the suggestion the player was trying to “get back” at coaches for lack of playing time.

Among those identified as writing the e-mails were former Texas Tech quarterback Graham Harrell, former Tech wide receiver Eric Morris, assistant coach Lincoln Riley and former assistant coach Dana Holgerson, now the offensive coordinator at the University of Houston.
I suspect there is a great deal more to the story than Craig James is stating publicly, and that Leach is getting a raw deal.

Personally, and based solely on what I've seen of him on tv, I've often thought that James was a bit of a jerk (and that is putting it politely). This story does nothing to change my view of him.

ETA: I've read that Tech was the only school that offered James' son a scholarship. Maybe that's true, maybe it is not. But when you consider how Leach recruits (namely: finds "undiscovered" talent or people that most other coaches pass on as not being very good or talented, and then creates an explosive team from the motley mess), I'm inclined to believe that James' son isn't that great of a player on his own accord and that this is the family's way of "getting back" for not getting what they think that they deserve.

I knew that the sterotypes weren't going to be true, yet I did expect a bit of  on my trip to Paris earlier this year. Thankfully, I didn't find any, which was really great. Of course, I do not expect this to dissuade of stereotyping. ;):D:p:-:

I don't get how old school attitudes can still surivive in this day an age.:rolleyes::rolleyes: He probably made them practice in the August heat without water to toughen them up.:rolleyes:

Good grief, it's freezing here. 9 degrees, -12 with the  chill. If no one get killed today by flying debris it will be a good thing. Just saw a sheet of plywood fly off scaffolding and land in an empty traffic lane.

I've been to Paris and other parts of France many times and have never felt that I received poor service because I am American. If you treat them with respect and speak passable French, you get even better service, in my experience (certainly better than in many large American cities). If one acts like a typical obnoxious American, one should not be surprised at receiving poor service.

When I was living in Chicago, I saw a sheet of plywood fly off about the 10th floor of a building that was under construction. It flew across the street, into about the 8th floor of another building that was under construction!
