I figured this was the case but I was SSSSed on O/W to SLC on DL recently and that's what caused the confusion.

Makes sense though. ^

Does all of this o/w SSSSed assume that terrorists are afraid of throwaway ticketing?

Doesn't make sense to me. "SSSS" isn't a secret code. If a terrorist or criminal sees SSSS on his boarding pass they just won't attempt to go through security.

I've only been "SSSS"ed twice. Both were last minute packages bought on XPD.com

This is a shameless self-promotion bump--my 301st post (yes I know it is the mating call of the mute button). In a slightly more on topic use of this post, what is up with all the elite seats being filled on flight 1830, IAH-PBI on Jan 19????

Not if purchased in advance with a credit card. Where you get into trouble is when you're re-routed onto another carrier and the new record looks like someone who walked up and paid cash for the one-way. Those are always SSSS-ed.

The most consistent approach I've seen to not getting SSSS'd is to have your FF# in the reservation. As long as that is there, the chances are much, much, much smaller of the SSSS showing up. I've actually not had it in about a year or two as long as I have the FF# on the reservation. Of course, my on VDB reroute last month my OnePass # didn't push over to DL as part of the reservation and I was SSSS'd. In February I was also VDB'd to DL and they didn't SSSS me, even without the FF#, so it isn't a guarantee either way.

Oh yes, on January 19 quite a lot of President's Day travelers are in motion and the "season" has started. I find that these seats fill up very quickly to PBI from IAH, EWR, PHL, and LGA. It is not usual to see all of the elite seats gone as on your flight but they are highly occupied at that time. It is very difficult to upgrade to PBI during the "season" and not infrequently especially on CO, first gets sold out before platinum #1 gets an upgrade.

For me, this is not a major inconvenience because our place is halfway between PBI and FLL so I pretty much stick to FLL during those months. Those flights are not anywhere nearly as stocked with Elites and FC buyers as are those out of PBI.

That would be the MLK Day travelers. President's Day is in February.

Whatever. I guess I get the holidays confused. :o
Regardless, it is a three day weekend and the beginning of the "season."

I pick random days to do a MR, and I am now dealing with holiday traffic. Wonderful...I am an idiot.

May I do a shameless self-promotion as well? I am PLAT for the first time in almost 10 years as a OP member. Watch out fools.. I'll be stealing your upgrades!

(OKAY... not really. For the most part this will gain me better bene's on the aus-iah-lga flights.. but that is about it!) And I will be sure to report back on the extra "1" upgrade I got because of the status.. lol. )

Ok. Done now.

Shameless post inflation in the Penalty Box? Yes, please :D ^. Congrats! How long before you can be turned loose amongst the OMNIvores? As others said, MLK day weekend. The proper way to spend an MLK day weekend is not in PBI, but gorging oneself instead in Buenos Aires :)

Congrats! And no worries, I've switched over to buying Q-UP fares on DL (mostly mistake fares, but lots of 'em) and UA (good value cpm fares at BD rates) to avoid having to play the upgrade game.

I have been doing the same thing this year and that is why I (shameless self-promotion is the order of the day around here) will be Platinum Medallion when my next flight touches down later this week. I think that I will kick back to Gold on US because I refuse to fly UA since all they have where I usually go is TED.

I always hedge my upgrade efforts on the -500s..

lol. In reality I actually looked at jfk this year (again - I'm a lga person as twin sis lives in brooklyn heights - this begs LGA.). Any hints there? I was **nervous** about jumping on a -500 (upgrade reasons) although I will mention there were a few more mileage upgrade capabilities to JFK. EWR is just craptastic... a $70 cab ride normally doesn't work too well for me - any $30 <cab ride> deals from EWR-Brooklyn Heights you know of?

(edited for clarification)
