Do you have local/regional Hiltons where the prices go through the floor near the holidays? Very common with Hyatt, when rates go below $60 for some full-service hotels.

She's heard talk of rebates on normal household purchases.

Hmmm, that must be it. Plus1 is on his way up with a $20 , $1 coin a $.25. She want to buy a barn. She hopes her next tooth will get her enough to buy her animals for the barn.

She wanted her birthday party at the zoo. As someone who thinks I need to teach her child giving, we talking about things and decided that the best gift would be "adopting an animal" at the zoo (now mind you, I'm not all the keen on zoos, but we'll be fine). BL JR and I decided that we would put on invites that as an alternate gift people could donate toward one of the the animals. I like that she is finding a project and likes to give (we do this more than once a year and she does "get this" by now). I just don't like the thing of parties and giving gifts that she really doesn't need and instead could go toward better things. It doesn't stop me from buying other gifts. I'm not trying to be on a soap box, so forgive me if it seems I am. Well, isn't that what teh box is for?

I have a very low amount of AA miles as well,

I believe his restaurant 1884 is still regarded as the top restaurant in MDZ.

She must know where the money comes from. Now when I was a kid, I don't think I got more than a $1. Unfortunately, her sister has gotten a $20 so we are up for higher stakes. Look for dollar coins folks. Plus1 is golfing for me tomorrow in the CO event. I am hoping I'll be up to showing up to the dinner. Mad Men is on, so later until 10 or a commercial break.

Inflation????

The EWR Hilton was $69 the weekend of the NYC DO. Try there and the property is nice!

There's a Hampton in my town that's in the middle of no where. It's always full but the eco-terrorist burned it down once during its first construction attempt so in my mind the place has bad vibes.

My nephew adopted a snowy owl.

That hotel kept coming up in my search for cheap options - parking is $17 a day though (not familiar with the transit opportunities or if Hilton charges elites).

Hotels don't have vibes - operators (maybe) and arsonists (definitely) have vibes though. ;)

A local 17-year-old who is the daughter of an ex-Rotarian has drawn our Congressman's attention by putting together a program in which the local real estate firms reach out to returning vets and secure them beach houses for their R&R at no charge to them and their families. Local restaurants are throwing in dinners too. Too bad that when her mom was the Rotary president, she never showed up to run the meetings.

Standing rule: this week's speaker is also the presiding officer?

Plus1. I hate when I see people not using their manners. For instance, when ordering coffee, etc. and they bark at the attendant: give me a coffee, black, no sugar. Err, what happened to the "please may I have a coffee, black, no sugar, thank you". I almost want to turn to them and say "... and what's the magic word ....?"

Instead, I am merely passive aggressive, and make sure to say my please and thank you's very loud and pointed so that they get the message.

I've listened to a Depeche Mode song twice in the last week. It's like high school all over again.
