I was at hooters for the Texas game. Some idiot was in there screaming for the red raiders/dirt aggies. It was like 1 v. 100, it reached the point where we were all screaming at this guy. Then the manager escorted the raider to the door.

I know that this is heresy on this thread but when you travel as much on business as you and I do, I am surprised that you are not looking for the shortest rather than the longest way to get somewhere. You're going to qualify for top tier no matter what you do, so why do mileage run type trips? And especially on UA, where the service is so inconsistent and at times so completely inconsiderate that flying them is always a crapshoot.

And did you get upgraded for all those legs? Don't anybody tell me about E+ which is simply the coach pig with a bit of lipstick.

That's correct — I'm going for UA 1K status because with double EQMs, I can. Usually for my LAX trips I fly ATL-IAD-LAX-IAD-ATL. This trip I booked ATL-IAD-ORD-SFO-LAX-IAD-ATL. The return trip has no change, because at the end of the week, I just want to get home. On the outbound trip, on Monday, I don't mind leaving in the morning and flying all day. I can get work done on the plane, or read, or just relax — and this itinerary actually works with long enough layovers and plenty of other flight options that should UA go  on me, I'll still be fine.

As for the upgrades, I've got enough E-500s to upgrade, should any of it clear. I don't expect my upgrades on the transcon or hub-hub flights to clear, and they rarely do. The shorter segments, and UA flights to/from places like ATL and IAH I almost always get upgraded on. However, I've become pretty happy with E+. Yes, it's still Y with extra legroom. However, the seats are pretty comfortable, I often end up with an empty middle seat next to me if the flight isn't 100% full, and the pitch is sufficient enough that I can stretch out my long legs, and have room to open up my laptop on the tray table. I don't think it's bad at all should some of my upgrades not clear. I'm doing ATL-IAD-LAX tomorrow. ATL-IAD cleared yesterday; I doubt the IAD-LAX segment on the 777 will clear, but for a five hour flight, E+ on that plane is perfectly fine.

Sure, I may be crazy for doing it, but double EQMs, plus mileage running a few trips on UA, means the difference between 2P and 1K status. And it would certainly be nice to have that status and those CR1s and SWUs for next year's personal travel.

Last time I was in Vieques, it was a Naval area. Very rural and the beaches were wonderful. Good choice for a wedding.

sfogate signing out. Flight leaves in about 3 hours but I have to fight the traffic to the airport, thanks to a 49er game this afternoon, then wait for the employee bus, and then I get to meet and greet the TSA line with my airport badge demanding that I take off my shoes even thought I am not required to.

When I return I will be sfogate-whoops we lost your bag.

See you later.

Funeral done, home just in time for early Sunday dinner. There were a good amount of former AMMO troops there, as a bunch of us who were there in the last ten years or so all got calls. Good stuff. Off to have a cocktail.

Afternoon, Box.

I'm back from the mileage run seminar in PHX. It was officiated by VJViajoren(sp) and for newbies was a great introduction to learning how to construct multi-leg/segment mileage runs. VJ is a cool guy - younger than I anticipated - and just very friendly and generous with his time and knowledge.

Travelled wth mnmag - or, as she will henceforth be known to all those in the box - the energiser bunny. If anyone needs a shot of energy, spend some time with mnmag. She has enough to share. I'm a lightweight compared to her!

I got the upgrade on the way out, unfortunately her companion upgrade didn't clear.

We stayed at the Sheraton Tempe/airport. I'm sure mnmag will post the details about our experiences there!! It was two free nights under the SPG deal, so that was cool.

I managed to get her the companion upgrade on the way back today! I think she appreciated sitting in first.

We watched The Proposal with Sandra Bullock and Ryan whats-his-name - the dude married to Scarlett Johanssen. I have to say, the movie was hilarious. In fact, we were laughing so loud the FA had to come over and tell us not to laugh so much!!

We had an aircraft with DirectTV. Pretty cool.

Caution: multi-quoting ahead as I catch up with the box....
