From what I've heard, getting 80%+ of Rapaport with a good stone is not difficult when dealing with a reputable jeweler who regularly sells such stones. They are less willing to negotiate near Rapaport value when the clarity, color, cut, etc., of the stone are not very desirable. However, a 1.54Ct, D, IF Radiant Cut is the sort of thing that would easily be salable at retail rates as part of an engagement ring, especially in larger markets with a sizable base of affluent clientele.

Well that makes sense to me -- I do appreciate that your diamond is of incredible quality & it helps that it's more than 1 carat in size. I imagine there is demand for a radiant cut -- among well-heeled clients who have the means & desire to pay for a fancier shape. What kind of setting is it -- gold, plat?

My ticket on the 7:00 CO flight is a refundable one and the 6:00 Acela would get me there by the skin of my teeth if it's right on time (still have to get over to EWR and then to off-site parking).

Luckily, my gear (which would normally be in my truck) is at my guitarist's house and he'll be bringing it to the venue. Since I had to drive Ms. GadFly to the airport on Monday and she packs like she's going on a 6-month trip to no-laundry-land, I asked if he wouldn't mind helping me out. I guess since I drive him to all the shows (he lives 5 minutes from me), it's only fair. He says he'll unpack and set up my drums so all I'll have to do it tweak things a little.

Yeah....tell me about it!

If any Box NJ folks want to go to where the gig is in Middlesex and play "Will Steve make it for our 9:30 start time", let me know and I'll post details.

Phew -- it's exhausting just reading about it! Alas, I'll be in VA to pick up my son from camp -- again, hopefully next gig!

I was getting hooked on Mad Men on my EK flight back from DXB. I must have watched most of the first season on that flight. :D

I thought all the girls go wobbly-bonkers for Round Brilliant, and that's where the price premium gets made. It seemed to me that all other cuts were of lesser importance and commanded less of a market premium.

Plus1 will have to put a lock on that fridge once BL Jr. gets a bit older.

An annulment means that there was never legally any Marriage in the first place. So, the conditional gift theory would indeed come into play. However, (for now) it looks as if the ring issue will be resolved without recourse to legal action.

Gift laws are so idiotic. In general (in a perfect world), if the receiver is the cause of the break-up, then they should hand the ring back. Period. End of story. Accepting a ring is a promise to marry and be faithful. If one can't hold up to that, well the ring goes back.

But it holds for the giver too. But clearly that is not your case. I really hope everything works out well for you. :)

Fiancee would like to see photos of the real thing, ALCO. She has not dropped the notion of swapping out her stone.

I'd be happy to take one if/when I get it back and PM you. However, it looks exactly like the image posted above. That's one of the images I gave to the jeweler in STT, and he made a flawless replica (but for the Tacori mark on the inside of the band).

Thanks for the well-wishes. I'm working on plans to feed the insatiable Aerogeek beast, now. As I'm not really tethered to the Festering Pit (or any place close to Louisiana) beyond finishing up my degree, I can broaden my future employment search horizon considerably. Granted, the job market is , but having more flexibility when looking for what little is out there is definitely a plus.

Greetings from one of the MEM-area Hyatt Places, where I was immediately recognized as a Diamond Member when I gave my name.

Did I miss anything?

Does Diamond get you anything at a Hyatt Place?

I think that's true (about round brilliant) when it comes to higher (than one) carat sizes. Like other commodities, it's a matter of market demand. Typically, I would imagine that any cut diamond of a a higher quality & size demands more according to it's individual qualities. I also think that when it's a second marriage or something -- less 'traditional' cuts are more popular.

It would be ideal if ALCO could find someone who is looking for exactly what he's got to offer!
