I checked-in for my flights (that had not upgraded) and noticed that I wasn't added to the stand-by list. I call the Elite line and 20 minutes later I get the following answer as to why this happened.

I used the 2-for-1 voucher and that has terms attached to it, which are nowhere on the voucher, that essentially turn the reservation into a companion reservation and make upgrades an all or nothing endeavor. I cannot be added to the list until I get to the airport and cannot be upgraded unless there is space available for my wife and I. I have looked at the voucher again and there is nothing on it that says anything about this. I thought the guy might be blowing smoke up my butt but I am a little too angry to try and call back.

He said that even though I had split the reservation the terms of the voucher stick with them. Maybe I should have bought the ticket under my wife's name, but then we probably wouldn't have been able to book elite seats.

Had I known these were the terms, I wouldn't have used the stupid voucher and just bought the tickets outright, but it was sitting on my desk and I thought it was a good chance to use it.

Am I overreacting? The AUS-IAH segment is full now (with upgrades) and PDX-IAH is on that path.

This is definitely beyond  and I can certainly understand why you'd be upset. A think a PM to CO Insider is certainly in order. While it is probably too late to fix your flight tomorrow, it will certainly help educate them on this issue.

Either way, don't let it ruin your flights, sit next to your wonderful wife and have a great time in PDX!

I've been having similar issues with getting my name on the upgrade standby list, really annoying :(

sdm1130, what books did you end up buying?

From Box suggestions...
  • Twenty-First-Century Jet: The Making and Marketing of the Boeing 777 by Karl Sabbagh
  • The House of Mondavi by Julia Flynn Siler
  • I Am Legend by Richard Matheson

Additionally, I picked up...
  • Into Thin Air: A Personal Account of the Mt. Everest Disaster by Jon Krakauer (this is kind of a different genre for me, so we'll see how it goes)
  • The Drunkard's Walk: How Randomness Rules Our Lives by Leonard Mlodinow (I think Hartmann actually suggested this after it was already in my cart ^)

No.

CO, relative to other elite programs, offers less to their elite base and then touts their elite upgrades as the cornerstone benefit and you have every right to be upset when CO fails to deliver.

And just to beat the dead horse one more time:

CO + unusual = FAIL + frontline blaming customer

Follow up with this if for no other reason so that it won't happen again.

I sent a message to CO Insider and received a quick reply. He stated that it's definitely a mistake that the vouchers have that stipulation. Apparently it had been seen before and attempt was made to remedy the problem but I guess it didn't flow through to all the records. It's good that they know it's not completely fixed.

Now I understand who are "freinds" are over at . They are the FA version of our ALPO "friends". Now it's really easy for CO management to figure out who they are if they don't already know that info.

And to the gentleman across from me in row 19, to you sir, I say good for you. You don't let social norms or pressures influence you in any way. From your beige socks with a black slacks and black shoes to the shave that you apparently received from a blind barber with CP. You just don't give a $h!t and I commend that. When you fly, you're literally above everyone else. I hear ya brother.

And when you asked for three bottles of "the Cab" from the FA and proceeded to swig them directly out of the plastic "bottle" like you were taking nips of scotch from a flask, you sir, were the definition of class. I was in awe.

So, what time is your philosophy class this morning?

ETA: I forgot the best part of this gentleman: he was listening to a Sony Walkman. Yes, he had a tape player.

In other news, the FA last night was Drop. Dead. Gorgeous. @:-) And I'm not just saying that because of the absurd amount of beer I consumed on that flight, or that she freely offered up beers to a few "select" pax during the Penalty Box hold.

One advantage of DL going to E175's for the Shuttle is you no longer have the Sr. Mama flight attendants (who were always great in everything but the looks dept).

How does a Sony Walkman still work? Glad you had a great FA ;)

I don't think I've seen this much rain, come down this hard and this fast, in months. Perhaps not since Hurricane Ike made a visit.

It's because we haven't seen rain in so long, our view is skewed.

Plus1 has some interesting inside scoop on this one! Ask him AFTER you read the book, though.

I am enjoying a quiet evening at home while Plus1 and BL JR are being Circus Celebrities. R:rolleyes:ger Clemens was the "celebrity" ringmaster and Plus1 and BL JR ran into he and Debbie while getting popcorn. Glad I wasn't there or I might have gotten ill.

Google looks awesome today^

I packed for our trip to LAX tomorrow and our largest bag is stuffed. I'm not done packing my stuff and Plus1 hasn't begun to pack. I face serious  when he gets home.

Watching Royal Pains and it's pretty good.

I hate Wells Fargo.

I've seen "Airline" a few times and I think I know the episode you're talking about. Was it the one where the person was flying in for an interview to be a FA and raised a big ol' cup of  and  when she couldn't get on a flight because she as a non-rev (or something like that...it was a while ago)?

I don't think either of the FA's in that thread belong in any kind of 'service' industry. They should never be exposed to customers.

Just read that "thread". By the way, WN does have elite line and members. They call it the Fly By Lane and A-List respectively. Well, those who use or have the designation call it "elite." :p

I've flown them once in my life...didn't do anything for me. No EUA's, no P-Clubs, mad scramble for seats, etc.....there's a reason I don't fly them and it's isn't just because they aren't at EWR. I used to fly ALB-BWI a few times a year and every time, I made a connection in EWR, CLE, or DTW rather than fly WN non-stop.

RT FLL-LGA this weekend and taking nothing but a briefcase. I would not even bother with the laptop except both airplanes will have gogo and who around here would turn that sort of stuff down when it is given to you free?

I'm going to wait until the morning, I think. Mine is just a quick weekend to Florida so I need a bathing suit, a pair of shorts and three shirts and I'm done. My camera and laptop will take up more space than my clothes.

Free is the key to that service. I just don't see the value at the price point they've got it at otherwise.
