That very well may be the requirement (I might have simply ignored it when I booked there).

However, they did not ask me at any time to prove that I was in-transit, I simply checked-in at some ridiculous hour and checked out at 8AM, a far more reasonable time to head into downtown.

I think the transit part just means that you are airside, not that you are required to have an onward connection.

How long does it take to clear ICN? Would the hotel be more amenable if you got there around 7 a.m. (or later in the morning)? Radisson (serious  of a loyalty program) saved my bacon by allowing me to check in shortly after 7 a.m. in AMS.

From what I've read, one should plan on about 2.5-3 hours for immigration, claiming baggage and transfer from ICN to the city. This time varies significantly at different times of the day due to heavy traffic but it sounds like we will be OK this early in the morning. So, I was planning on arriving at the hotel around 7am.

The miles usually post on the 12th or 13th...

After about 15 phone calls over 7 months, I just yesterday received the 10K miles for opening a new Chase checking account. The account was opened in December :-:

I think there is a field in Little Ferry or Moonachie or was that the field that was closed?

So, it sounds like it is definitely possible to stay at the transit hotel even if you are not in transit. Unfortunately, I am assuming that there would be no way to get our checked baggage before stopping at the transit hotel. That may be a deal breaker...

Perhaps, but I still think it was a worthwhile investment. Considering that many books are much cheaper on the Kindle the savings can add up pretty quickly to recover the CapEx investment. Plus, it has the advantage of being WAY lighter and smaller than any stack of books you'd normally bring with you on a trip.

You don't need to sell me on the upsides of the Kindle - I completely agree that they are there. :) I just think it would have a much greater level of success if they lowered the cost. I'll probably break down and eventually buy one...

Have any of you vacationed in AUA? I'm looking at the Westin there.

If we end up doing this, we'd have to fly to EWR the night before... so you know what that means ;)

Only by cruise ship. The beaches are stunning. Like any small island, it could get boring if you plan on staying there for extended periods. As much as I enjoy a good beach and tropical drink, I tend to get bored with beach holidays after about 4-5 days.

My Northwelta flight was early into AMS, and my bag was off the belt at exactly 6am. Once I woke up a little and got my bearings, I got to the Hilton AMS front desk at about 6:20. The first room didn't work out so well, but I had a functioning room before 7am as well.

Given how much I read, I thought I would find this interesting, but I still like the feel of a hardcover in my hands. Maybe if I traveled to the extent that some here did, I would curse the weight of books...but for now, I don't. I have to try the device and see if it excites me at all.

Yeah, the Flex EQMs seem to post regularly but the regular miles are behind this month.
