LOL. I should have known...

I can comment on Fort Worth, where I am living temporarily Monday-Thursdays. :)

Fort Worth is pretty cool - the downtown area is small and has a lot of nice places to eat, outdoor entertainment on Wednesday nights (bands), and the stockyards are a short drive, and are kind of like a step back in time. There is a Renaissance hotel downtown (where I'm currently living) that is pretty nice (for a Marriott).

I've also found the people here to be extremely friendly. Other than being Texas-hot, it is a good place.

In Dallas, I've stayed at the W - which has an open-air pool about half-way up the building. I'm not a huge W fan, but it wasn't bad.

Sounds like a decent enough place to spend your weekdays. I'll have to look in to what kind of sights (if any) there are to see. Sometimes it's nice to just spend a weekend wandering around a new city even if that city is .

You could visit the Grassy Knoll.

Sadly, yes.

COFlyerCLE,

Is you you that recommended the Love Shack in Forth Worth?

Be sure to call the USO Tour folks at least two weeks before your intended tour date, to lock in a reservation.

Thanks. My question was related to that. Were you ever able to find a US number for that tour? Avoiding a call to South Korean could always be a good thing. Also, with the early start to the tour, I'm thinking of just braving the traffic and taking a cab over to the base. Bad idea?

KE lounge. Looked like all SkyTeam carriers were using the KE lounge. Oddly enough, the KE lounge was plastered with AF memorabilia.

I believe the KE site used to list this as an AF lounge, so it probably just changed hands.

You can walk parts of Fort Worth and there's a train to Dallas (Trinity Railway Express). There are parts of Dallas, including parts of downtown, that you just don't wander into. Deep Ellum used to be a cool place to hang out and hear bands but they priced themselves out of the market and it is once again becoming a bad place to go.

Agreed. The roads and traffic are terrible with drivers who are much more likely to shoot you.

Fort Worth is nice and there is some stuff to see there. The only time I'd go to Dallas for fun is to visit friends or for the state fair and the UT/Okie game.

I've heard good things about Ft. Worth, as well, as I have a friend who lives there. I just can't stomach the thought of spending $$$ to actually drive/fly to that general area of Texas for a weekend.

Not too far from Dallas is Dinosaur Valley State Park. I visited when I was younger, and it was pretty cool. You can tube on the river (assuming it hasn't dried up in the current drought), and it's pretty cool to tube over a sinkhole, only to discover that it's a Brontosaurus footprint...

If anyone is O/D or transit in ATL, I would recommend a stop at One Flew South in the E concourse. Good food, and a great kobe steak burger.

No. I had to call South Korea at the number listed on the USO Korea Tour Website. We just got up early (easy to do with jet-lag) and took the Seoul Metro to get to Camp Kim. There's a subway station about 2 blocks from Camp Kim, and the Metro starts running early enough (if you catch the first train from the station near the W) to get there with time to spare. Granted, we left the W so early that their free shuttle wasn't running, so we had to take a cab to the station. However, it was only about $3 for the cab ride, and another $3 each to get to Camp Kim on the Metro. A cab ride all the way would likely have cost $40 or more.

I don't recall. I'll have to check my photos when I get back home this evening.

The airport/hotel shuttle van drivers at DFW are the second worse I've come across. MCI has the distinction of being the bottom. SAT is on the top of my list but that was 9 years ago.

Yes it is! In fact, we are making another visit there tonight - after we go shopping for some cowboy boots (in order to fit in a little better).

The Double Dirty Love Burger was frigging awesome. And the music was good too. All-in-all a great time there. It is cash-only, so be prepared for that.
