Yes, I've tried them a few times before and found them quite acceptable.

Texas Roadhouse was acceptable too as is Lonestar Steakhouse. Those overnight trips in rural areas usually get me to give these restaurants a try.

I generally go to Kroger as well, only other options are walmart which is not  it is downright , and Brookshires, which is very high priced and totally

ON eof the HEB Central Markets I went too in the past is now rebranded HEB Plus! :(

You can only go twice a year, and if you file the report by the deadline, you get $40 of your check reimbursed. The survey is 43 questions.

Thanks Mike. We both signed up. ^

I am not one to turn down a free meal. Now only if I can find a way to be a shopper for CO. Paging the Insider.

Saltgrass Steakhouse isn't too bad. Dunno if they have any outside of Houston. It's part of Tilman Fertitta's Landrys empire, IIRC (along with Chart House, Those Aquarium Restaurants, and several other chain restaurants).

I <3 me some Krogers as well, but alas, they do not service our state capital.

:D Lamar Street is the answer!

I'm way up north in Cedar Park; that is a bit far to go just for groceries. But we'll go down to check it out one day. Since I'm unemployed at the moment, maybe we'll do that as an outing to get out of the house.

I generally disdain Walmart as well, but I am blessed to have a fairly new store nearby that is actually quite nice. It does not claim to be a Super Center though it does have a full service grocery. I was pleasantly surprised that everything was clean and cheap, even the produce. But most other Super Walmart stores I have been to were downright awful, including the one in Nacogdoches where I shopped regularly as a poor college student.

We also have two Super Target stores here which are great, except for the produce. They have a very limited selection and their prices are about the same as HEB, which has everything.

Brookshires is crazy, but Brookshire Brothers (the chain in East Texas) is a little more down to earth I found.

just FYI, Brookershire Brothers is part of the same now, the brothers run the main chain now. It was a family split a long time ago, over sales of beer in the store itself. I know the family....

They have one in San Antonio, though it is always hard to get into.

You're welcome.

Whatever you do, don't get the chili.

I wish I could remember the name of the place alongside Highway 36 (the highway to Somerville, Tx) that has the absolute best Chicken Fried Steak on the planet. It's famous for it. I'm off to teh Googles to see if I can find it.

Steph3n Jun 30, 2009 8:00 pm

talking about some chains, one small chain I have tried twice and enjoyed in Tyler, Tx is the Clear Springs Texas Seafood.

When I went in here I first checked the menu I figured 'Texas seafood' was going to be crawfish and catfish, which they certianly had, but they had a lot more. I dispise catfish and most any freshwater fish.

I had a nice full salad with a made to my spec vinegar and oil with herbs (they did not have such on menu), shrimp salsa chips, and jalapeno crawfish chowder the first time I went, it was CHEAP (I think it was $15.00 total!) and great flavors. It was so good I went back again and didn't get the chips and shrimp salsa, it was only $9!

The chowder was not that spicy, I could have used a little more jalapeno, but I was pleasantly surprised by taste and price.

I only own stock in Walmart but I never shop there either. If the parking lot is already , can't bear to be inside.
