It was advertised on the radio when I was a kid that with a phone call a sales rep will meet you 24/7 at the dealership at one in East Texas.

We should have a Texas Car Dealership MeetDo

The law is still in effect, though altered. Car dealerships may operate on only one weekend day and not both.

Cmon, we could all pretend to buy a car using a Presidential MC or Amex SPG to get the points.

get around it by having two brands next to each other, and if someone wants to look at the other the other brand shows it and can do the paperwork. (having different offices/showrooms, which was common)

of course that may be going away with the bankruptcies now.

While some of us have credit lines that could do this, it would be the most expensive car purchase in history :D (in % rate charged)

My last car was partially bought with the Continentel Chase World M/C. The dealer allowed $10K max on it. The rest was paid w/ cash. I didn't think there was a max allowed on M/C purchases... just like there is no minimum allowed.

Every one I have seen seems to be open on Saturday, and closed on Sunday. I'll bet all dealers are closed on Sunday. When I lived in PA, if I wanted to buy a car on Sunday, I could go into DE or NJ and give those dealers my business.

If what I read on OMNI (notP/R) is correct, and I believe it, you got hosed as there is no max limit (besides your credit limit) in the MasterCard agreement with vendors. You could have pushed the issue by saying you'll take it up with MC and probably have gotten them to relent.

I have not seen any car dealers around my neck of the woods open on Sunday. I dunno about south Jersey.

heck I'd close on sunday and let my employees have a sure day off if I wasn't in a 24/7 internet industry too! It is a good thing, not bad :) I'd do it for monday, tuesday, saturday, whatever too, but I can't :( (I mean I'd do it any one day of the week)

Are there any Denny's or IHOPs in Bergen Co, are they essential services? ;)

The dealer did this because he didn't want to pay hefty credit card fees on the purchase.

It's very  for those of us that work M - F and like to be productive on the weekends.

And yet the Bergen County blue laws get passed every time they are up for renewal. My grandparents used to live in Fair Lawn; I know the blue laws all too well despite growing down south along the Jersey Shore.

NJ is the land of one of the worst business climates in the country, and car dealers are closed here too. I know one car dealership manager and former RV dealership owner told me if a car dealer in NJ tries to do business on a Sunday, they will almost certainly be met with a licensure pull proceeding of some sort on Monday morning.

Too common sense to be taken from the NJ legal books.

photog72, you were indeed given the  - not only does regular OMNI have a few threads on it, but so do all of the credit card forums. Dealer refuses to pay fee, sets limit and hopes that limit is high enough to please customer and low enough that management won't flip out at the transaction fee. The ex-boss of mine I mentioned who liked the FA's on NK was successful in putting an entire car on his Centurion. I never bothered to ask how he got the dealer to accept charging the total price of a 300Z, but they did do it for him.

our fees for AMEX are a fraction of the fees for MC/Visa and required a separate agreement with AMEX, Discover is the same way, much less costly for us to take them.
