After the tax and fee increases, my registration is now $278 for one year. Never have I been more happy to be moving to AUS so that I don't have to pay that.

"Texas where most fees are a tad south of bloody insane." you mean $61 for registration and $12.50 for inspection is insane? :)

No - one of my colleagues and I have "re-enacted" some of the scenarios for the enjoyment of the office, down to one of us sitting in a chair reflecting "after the fact".

I just had to renew my CA registration since the bank couldn't get the title back to NJ quickly enough and I didn't want to risk having an unregistered car.

Fortunately, it was still at the previous prices, but $215 was a bit much compared to NJ's $60 or so.

I really don't miss living in CA, it's fun to visit.

I ate dinner with some locals here in west/central texas the other day...they ask me: "So you aren't doing that job in Miami anymore", I reply, yes I just got back from there on Saturday..."oh so you drive?"....no I fly, regularly..." why do you have a job like that?" well I happen to love flying, and love my job, if I drove it anymore my wheels would be coming off my car and I'd be sleeping for days :D

All set up to fly. I definitely like starting this way better. Having reasonably easy access to significant cash-flow right up front makes things a lot more interesting.

How am I supposed to get any work done now?

Was just on the website for the Nationwide Motor Club - membership was $52 a year or $4 a month. Does any other company provide an installment plan cheaper than a single payment plan?

Get an older car. Registration is only $40.80 (plus any local fees, which are capped at $11.50) for 2003 and older models.

I define exotic as one runway, no taxiways, a u-turn at each end, and the terminal is optional. ^:D Oh, yes, and on another continent.
